Position Overview
We are an established and growing firm, and we are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Manager to lead tax planning, compliance, and advisory services for our client base, while also helping lead our less-senior staff.ย
The role will be based in our office in Encino, with the possibility of moving to a Hybrid situation after 90 days.ย
The role focuses on managing complex federal and state tax matters, supervising tax teams, and delivering high-quality client service. The Senior Tax Manager will partner with practice leaders to develop tax strategies that optimize client outcomes, ensure compliance, and identify opportunities for process improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead preparation, review, and delivery of complex federal and state tax returns and tax provisions for corporations, partnerships, SCorporations, and individuals.
- Supervise, mentor, and manage a team of senior associates and staff; provide performance feedback, training, and career development guidance.
- Serve as primary client contact for tax engagements: explain tax issues, recommend strategies, and resolve technical and operational questions.
- Coordinate and review tax research, technical memos, and documentation supporting tax positions and planning recommendations.
- Manage engagement timelines, budgets, billing, and resource allocation to ensure on-time delivery and profitability.
- Oversee and perform quality reviews of tax returns, workpapers, and filings, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and firm standards.
- Advise clients on tax planning opportunities, entity structuring, SCorporation considerations, and state and local tax impacts.
- Collaborate with audit, advisory, and accounting teams to integrate tax accounting (ASC 740) and provide comprehensive client solutions.
- Support business development efforts by participating in proposals, client pitches, and thought leadership initiatives.
Qualifications
- Licensed CPA with active standing; significant public accounting experience required.
- Minimum 7+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting, including experience as a tax manager or senior tax professional.
- Deep technical knowledge of federal and state tax law, tax compliance, and tax planning for corporations, partnerships, and SCorporations.
- Proven experience managing tax engagements, supervising staff, and conducting reviews of tax returns and deliverables.
- Experience with tax accounting (ASC 740) and preparing or reviewing tax provisions preferred.
- Strong technical research and writing skills, with the ability to document positions and provide clear recommendations.
- Excellent client communication, project management, and interpersonal skills; ability to work across teams and with senior client stakeholders.
- Proficiency with tax software and common accounting systems; familiarity with managing return preparation workflows and electronic filing.
- Nice to have: hands-on experience with SCorporations, advanced tax accounting, conducting reviews of returns, and prior experience overseeing tax return production.
