SQL Server developer with Upgrade experience 
Location: Piscataway, NJ
Duration: 12 months
Position type: W2 contract.

Overview:
We are seeking a skilled SQL Server Developer with extensive experience in database upgrades and cloud migration to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in SQL Server development, expertise in upgrading database versions, and hands-on experience with AWS cloud services to support our cloud migration initiatives and ongoing database management.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and optimize SQL Server databases ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Lead and execute database upgrade projects from older versions of SQL Server to newer releases, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity.
  • Migrate existing on-premises SQL Server databases to AWS cloud environments, such as Amazon RDS, Aurora, or EC2-based solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design effective database schemas, stored procedures, scripts, and queries.
  • Implement and monitor database security, backup & recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Perform performance tuning, query optimization, and index management.
  • Develop automation scripts and processes for deployment, backup, and maintenance tasks.
  • Document database architecture, procedures, and standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues promptly.
  • Provide technical guidance on best practices for cloud-based database architecture and migration.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Proven experience as a SQL Server Developer with at least [10] years working on SQL Server versions 2012, 2016, 2019, or later.
  • Hands-on experience with database upgrades, including planning, testing, and executing upgrades.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS cloud services relevant to database hosting and migration (Amazon RDS, Aurora, EC2, S3).
  • Experience with database migration tools and techniques.
  • Proficiency in T-SQL, stored procedures, functions, and ETL processes.
  • Familiarity with AWS CLI, CloudFormation, or other automation tools is a plus.
  • Understanding of security best practices in cloud environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or AWS Certified Database Specialty.
  • Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines related to database deployment.
