Job description

Senior SQL Server DBA/Data Platform Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior SQL Server DBA / Data Platform Engineer to support and optimize our enterprise-grade on-premises SQL Server 2022 Always On Availability Group (AG) environment within a highly regulated and compliance-driven organization.

This role requires deep expertise in core SQL Server administration, database security, performance optimization, high availability, and operational support for mission-critical systems. The ideal candidate will also have experience supporting hybrid data platforms that extend into Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory (ADF), and Azure Data Lake environments.

In addition to traditional DBA responsibilities, this individual will collaborate closely with engineering and analytics teams to support database migrations, data transformations, BI reporting initiatives, and real-time data streaming pipelines.

Job Details

SQL Server Administration & Operations

  • Administer and support enterprise SQL Server 2022 environments with a focus on Always On Availability Groups (AG), high availability, and disaster recovery.
  • Perform SQL Server installations, configurations, upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management.
  • Monitor database health, storage utilization, performance metrics, and system availability.
  • Manage backup, restore, recovery, and maintenance strategies for mission-critical databases.
  • Troubleshoot database issues including blocking, deadlocks, replication, connectivity, and performance degradation.

Security & Compliance

  • Implement and maintain database security standards in a highly regulated environment.
  • Manage role-based access controls, encryption, auditing, and compliance requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to organizational security policies, governance frameworks, and data retention standards.
  • Support audit activities and remediation efforts.

Performance Optimization

  • Optimize SQL Server performance through indexing strategies, query tuning, execution plan analysis, and resource optimization.
  • Analyze and optimize stored procedures, views, functions, and ETL workloads.
  • Improve database scalability and operational efficiency for high-volume transactional systems.

Data Engineering & Cloud Integration

  • Support engineering teams with:
    • Database migrations
    • Data transformations
    • Schema changes
    • Performance tuning initiatives
  • Assist with Microsoft BI and dashboard development initiatives.
  • Optimize and support Azure Data Factory (ADF) pipelines, including streaming and near real-time data integrations.

Collaboration & Support

  • Work closely with application developers, data engineers, BI teams, and infrastructure teams.

Job Requirements

Required

  • 7+ years of hands-on SQL Server DBA experience in enterprise environments.
  • Strong experience with:
    • SQL Server 2019/2022

    • Performance tuning and optimization
