What is a senior scribe?

Senior Scribes are experienced medical scribes who assist healthcare providers by documenting patient encounters in real-time, usually within electronic health records (EHR) systems. In addition to scribing duties, they often oversee and mentor junior scribes, help with training, and ensure documentation accuracy and compliance. Senior Scribes play a crucial role in improving workflow efficiency in medical settings by allowing providers to focus more on patient care. Their advanced knowledge of medical terminology and clinical workflows makes them valuable team members. Some may also take on administrative tasks or quality assurance responsibilities.

What does a senior scribe do?

A Senior Scribe works closely with healthcare providers, documenting patient visits in real-time, managing electronic health records, and ensuring accurate and timely charting. One of the main challenges is keeping up with the fast-paced environment while maintaining meticulous attention to detail, especially when handling complex cases or multiple providers. Additionally, Senior Scribes often mentor junior scribes, coordinate workflow, and may help implement best practices for documentation, making strong communication and organizational skills essential. Collaboration with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff is a key part of the role, and it offers valuable exposure to clinical settings, which can support future career advancement in healthcare.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior scribe?

To thrive as a Senior Scribe, you need strong medical terminology knowledge, advanced documentation skills, and experience, often with a background in healthcare or a related certification. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical transcription software is typically required. Job description

About Scribe
Scribe is where exceptional people come to do the best work of their careers. Our Workflow AI platform automatically captures and optimizes how work gets done - 94% of the Fortune 500 use it, and 45% are paying customers. We hit $100M ARR in May 2026 and have grown to over 5 million daily active users across 600,000 businesses. We're Series C and valued at $1.3 billion. We're builders who hold a high bar, move fast, and care deeply about each other and our customers.
About the Role
Scribe's people mission is straightforward: be the place where exceptional people do the best work of their careers. This role exists to build the infrastructure that makes that real as we scale from 200 to 500+ employees.
As our Senior People Operations Generalist, you'll own programs that don't exist yet and improve the ones that do - spanning manager enablement, performance cycles, total rewards, and the connective tissue between People and Recruiting. This is a high-ownership role at a pivotal stage: you'll be shaping how the company grows, not just supporting it.
What You'll Do
  • Build manager enablement that actually sticks. Design the coaching, tools, and accountability structures that set managers up to lead well and hold a high performance bar as the org grows
  • Own performance cycles and engagement surveys end-to-end: design, run, synthesize, and turn what the data tells you into recommendations the business acts on
  • Close the loop between People and Recruiting. Help establish the feedback system between who we hire, what qualities predict success at Scribe, and how that informs both sourcing and long-term retention
  • Bring rigor to compensation and total rewards. Take what's currently ad hoc (comp requests, market benchmarking, total rewards framing) and build something repeatable and defensible
  • Partner with People leadership to prioritize and execute the people roadmap, staying ahead of what employees and managers actually need before it becomes a problem
  • Identify gaps and build what doesn't exist yet, from lifecycle improvements to new engagement initiatives, take a direction and run with it

What We're Looking For
  • Has 5+ years in People or HR at a fast-growing company and has seen firsthand what breaks as headcount scales
  • Forms a point of view fast and moves on it - knows how to operate with speed and limited resources without waiting for a complete brief
  • Doesn't just report what the data says; has a perspective on what it means and what to do about it
  • Naturally pulls people along - makes teammates better without needing a formal mandate
  • Comfortable holding competing priorities, knowing when to stay the course and when to pivot
  • Energized by pace and ambiguity; learns fastest when the playbook doesn't exist yet

Nice to Have
  • Has worked in a combined People and Talent function and understands how the two inform each other
  • Has coached managers directly, not just handed them a policy doc
  • Experience at a later-stage company, with the judgment to spot what Scribe should be building now
  • Familiarity with people metrics and how to benchmark them against external data

Location
Hybrid, 3 days per week in our San Francisco office.
Compensation
Salary varies by location. All full-time employees receive equity in Scribe. Final offers depend on experience and scope.
Benefits
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance for you and your dependents
  • Flexible paid time off and company holidays
  • 401(k)
  • Paid parental leave
  • Daily catered lunch (SF office)
  • Commuter benefits
  • Home office stipend

At Scribe, we celebrate our differences and are committed to creating a workplace where all employees feel supported and empowered to do their best work. Scribe is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
