What is a senior scribe?

Senior Scribes are experienced medical scribes who assist healthcare providers by documenting patient encounters in real-time, usually within electronic health records (EHR) systems. In addition to scribing duties, they often oversee and mentor junior scribes, help with training, and ensure documentation accuracy and compliance. Senior Scribes play a crucial role in improving workflow efficiency in medical settings by allowing providers to focus more on patient care. Their advanced knowledge of medical terminology and clinical workflows makes them valuable team members. Some may also take on administrative tasks or quality assurance responsibilities.

Is it hard to get hired as a senior scribe?

Getting hired as a senior scribe typically requires relevant experience in medical documentation, strong attention to detail, and proficiency with electronic health record systems. Employers often look for candidates with certification or training in medical scribing, and competition can vary based on location and demand for healthcare documentation professionals.

What does a senior scribe do?

A Senior Scribe works closely with healthcare providers, documenting patient visits in real-time, managing electronic health records, and ensuring accurate and timely charting. One of the main challenges is keeping up with the fast-paced environment while maintaining meticulous attention to detail, especially when handling complex cases or multiple providers. Additionally, Senior Scribes often mentor junior scribes, coordinate workflow, and may help implement best practices for documentation, making strong communication and organizational skills essential. Collaboration with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff is a key part of the role, and it offers valuable exposure to clinical settings, which can support future career advancement in healthcare.

Job description

About Us:

Here at Ambience, we never set out to be just another scribe. Weโ€™re building the AI intelligence platform that restores humanity to healthcare and drives meaningful ROI for health systems across the country.

Our technology helps providers focus on delivering great care by removing the administrative burden that pulls them away from patients and away from their most impactful work. Ambience delivers real-time coding-aware documentation and clinical workflow support across ambulatory, emergency and inpatient settings at the top health systems in North America.

Our teams operate relentlessly with extreme ownership to build the best solutions for our health system partners. We value candor, positivity and deep thought โ€” and we expect a lot from each other because we know the problems weโ€™re solving truly matter.

The Role:

Ambience Healthcare is building clinical AI that clinicians actually trust, and we are growing fast. The People function is small and high-leverage, and this is our first dedicated HR Business Partner seat, which means you will build it rather than inherit it. Reporting to the Head of People, you will be a true partner to the business: the everyday point person for our people managers, the owner of how we build manager capability, and the steward of how goals get set and run across the company. We are looking for a problem solver who builds simple, direct solutions, removes friction, and helps leaders make better calls. This is a senior individual contributor role.

Preferred: Willing to work 3 days/week from the San Francisco office.

What You\'ll Do:

  • Partner with people managers. Serve as the named point person for our people-leader population, running a set cadence through high-change moments: goal setting, reviews, review writing, engagement, and survey follow-up.

  • Build and deploy manager training. Own the annual training calendar, content, and deployment on top of our Manager Standards program, including first-time manager training and an AI curriculum rolled out across the org.

  • Steward goals and OKRs. Own individual key results, audit goal quality every cycle, and build the tooling to see goal health so that teams learn to self-run good goals rather than depend on chasing.

  • Navigate tough employee decisions. Coach leaders through routine employee relations and the trade-offs of hard calls, and partner on org design, leveling, and headcount for your coverage area in tight alignment with the Head of People.

  • Drive operational efficiency. Automate the recurring People operating rhythm using our existing tools and AI, from goal-health tracking to coverage cadence and survey follow-up.

Who You Are:

  • A partner first. You start from what the business is trying to achieve and shape the people work around it. You embed with leaders rather than operate as a support desk.

  • A problem solver. You see a problem and solve it. You build simple, direct solutions instead of heavy process, and you spot patterns early enough to keep small issues from becoming big ones.

  • A critical thinker who delivers through ambiguity. You structure messy problems and ship in phases rather than waiting for perfect clarity.

  • A trusted advisor on hard calls. You can sit in a difficult employee conversation and help a leader think clearly through the trade-offs, and you carry confidential and sensitive matters with sound judgment.

  • Able to influence without authority. You earn trust fast and move experienced, strong-willed leaders without relying on positional power.

  • A smart generalist and builder. You are fluent across business partnering, employee relations, performance, L&D, org design, and the fundamentals of compensation, with 6+ years of progressive HR experience including direct HRBP and manager-coaching work. You default to systems over heroics and build things that outlast you. This role has no direct reports.

Pay Transparency:

We offer a base compensation range that varies by location tier, exclusive of equity:

  • Tier 1: approximately $139,200 - $182,700 per year

  • Tier 2: approximately $132,240 - $173,565 per year

  • Tier 3: approximately $125,280 - $164,430 per year

These intentionally broad ranges provide flexibility for candidates to tailor their cash and equity mix based on individual preferences. Our compensation philosophy prioritizes meaningful equity grants, enabling team members to share directly in the impact they help create. Are you outside of the range? We encourage you to still apply: we take an individualized approach to ensure that compensation accounts for all of the life factors that matter for each candidate.

Life at Ambience

Working at Ambience means opting into a high-ownership, high-trust environment built for people who want to grow fast, operate decisively and focus on work that matters. This could be the right place for you if you want to

  • Work on mission-critical AI technology that directly improves cliniciansโ€™ day-to-day lives and health system financial health across some of the most complex, high-stakes workflows in the world.

  • Join a โ€œdream teamโ€ culture where we hire exceptional people, expect exceptional outcomes and invest deeply in feedback and continuous growth. We operate as a championship team, and that means being ok with hard, uncomfortable, ambiguous problems that lead to real greatness.

  • Operate with real ownership and accountability in an environment where there are no bystanders: If something is broken, we fix it! You will have meaningful autonomy and be expected to drive work to completion.

To help you do your best work, we pair these expectations with benefits intentionally designed to help you feel supported and safe at Ambience and beyond. Some of our key benefits include

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents

  • 401(k) with a company match of up to 3% of base salary

  • A remote-friendly culture (with a San Francisco HQ) and full equipment provisioning to ensure you can work effectively from wherever youโ€™re based.

  • Parental leave to support your family needs

  • Annual company-wide off-sites, team off-sites and regular team lunches and all-hands gatherings, with travel, lodging and meals covered

  • Flexible time off with no annual cap, company-wide holidays and an annual holiday shutdown from December 24โ€“January 1 designed to support real rest and long-term sustainability.
