Job description

VitaCyte is a leading manufacturer of purified-defined bacterial collagenase and associated protease enzymes for enzyme mediated cell isolation and other biotherapeutic applications

  • Job Purpose The job is primarily focused on production of enzymes used for the development of new cell based therapeutics and pharmaceuticals. The organization is an Indianapolis based biotechnology company seeking applicants for a position in its manufacturing department.
  • Education/experience
    • The appropriate candidate will have BA/BS, MS, or Ph.D. degree from an accredited institution in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, or Biotechnology.
    • ≥ 3 years direct experience purifying proteins incorporated into commercial products using Akta instrumentation
  • Duties:
    • Under the direction of the Director of Manufacturing, perform or delegate to Manufacturing Scientists the following activities:
      • Prepare biological buffers and samples for the purification of proteins from complex upstream matrices.
      • Chromatographically purify target proteins and process downstream material
      • Formulate final product compositions and execute fill and dispense procedures
      • Perform all of the above steps with strict adherence to established procedures to ensure traceability and protect the integrity of the products
      • Properly document all actions and activities as part of manufacturing batch records
      • Carry out all activities while maintaining appropriate manufacturing laboratory hygiene to minimize accidents and compromising product integrity
      • Properly maintain, calibrate, qualify and clean equipment and instruments used in the manufacturing process
      • Provide direction to Manufacturing Scientists for day-today operations
      • Support maintenance of ISO-9001 certification, ensuring the standards are followed
  • Skills/Qualifications:
    • Demonstrated proficiency with relevant advanced biochemistry laboratory skills
    • Rigorously disciplined adherence to established procedures and protocols
    • Strong interpersonal skills with a strong willingness to work with others in a team setting to accomplish organizational goals
    • Detail oriented and meticulously attentive to ongoing processes with the ability to identify trends, problems or opportunities for potential improvements
    • Strong problem solving skills with an ability to clearly articulate solution rationale
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
    • Average physical strength is required.
