Job description

Our client, a nationally recognized AmLaw 100 law firm with offices across the United States. They serve Fortune 500 corporations, major financial institutions, and leading organizations across a broad range of industries.

Position Overview

The Senior Pricing Analyst plays a central role in the firm’s financial strategy by developing, analyzing, and refining pricing models that drive profitability and strengthen client relationships. This individual will work across all practice areas to support alternative fee arrangements, rate strategy, competitive intelligence, and RFP responses. The role combines deep analytical capability with the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable recommendations for firm leadership and client teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain pricing models for alternative fee arrangements (AFAs), including fixed fees, phased fees, success fees, blended rates, and risk collars.
  • Conduct profitability analysis at the matter, client, practice group, and timekeeper levels to inform rate setting and pricing decisions.
  • Partner with partners, practice group leaders, and business development teams to build competitive pricing proposals and RFP responses.
  • Analyze historical billing data, realization rates, and write offs to identify trends and inform forward pricing strategy.
  • Build and maintain databases and dashboards using Excel and ServiceNow to track pricing outcomes, fee arrangement performance, and profitability metrics.
  • Perform competitive intelligence research on peer firm rate structures, billing practices, and market positioning.
  • Support the annual rate setting process by preparing data analyses, benchmarking reports, and scenario modeling.
  • Develop standardized templates and tools that enable partners and pricing leadership to evaluate fee proposals quickly and consistently.
  • Present pricing recommendations and financial analyses to senior leadership, including practice group chairs and the executive committee.
  • Collaborate with finance, accounting, and IT teams to ensure data integrity across billing and financial systems.
  • Monitor and report on AFA portfolio performance, flagging matters that are trending outside of projected profitability ranges.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field. MBA or CFA designation is a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in pricing, financial analysis, or a related analytical role, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex financial modeling, pivot tables, macros, and data visualization.
  • Working experience with ServiceNow or similar database and workflow platforms.
  • Strong understanding of law firm economics, including leverage models, realization, utilization, and billing structures.
  • Experience with legal billing and financial systems (e.g., Elite/3E, Aderant, or similar) is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to distill complex financial data into clear, persuasive narratives for senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and data integrity.
  • Comfortable operating independently in a fast paced, high expectation environment.

What We Offer

  • Competitive base salary and performance bonus.
  • Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) with firm match.
  • Professional development support, including CFA or MBA sponsorship where applicable.
  • Collaborative, intellectually engaging work environment alongside top legal professionals.
  • Opportunity to directly influence firm strategy and client relationships at the highest levels.
