Job description

SUMMARY

Mortenson Properties Inc. (MPI) is seeking a Senior Renewable Investments Manager to help build and scale a renewable investments platform with a strong focus on tax equity, tax credit monetization, and other margin-generating renewable investment opportunities. This role will work closely with the Director of Renewable Investments and cross-functional partners across Tax, Treasury, Finance, Legal, Accounting, and Development to source, underwrite, execute, and manage renewable energy investments. The right candidate will bring strong financial discipline, commercial judgment, and an ownership mindset—someone who can operate independently, manage multiple priorities, present clearly to senior stakeholders, and help turn an emerging strategy into a repeatable, scalable platform.

OPPORTUNITY

This is an entrepreneurial role for someone who wants to do more than manage transactions. The Senior Renewable Investments Manager will help shape how MPI invests in renewable energy, builds market relationships, evaluates risk, monetizes tax credits, and creates the internal tools and processes needed to grow. The role offers significant exposure to senior leadership, external counterparties, and complex investment decisions across the full lifecycle of renewable energy transactions.

 Build the Renewable Investments Platform

  • Help design and scale MPI’s renewable investments platform alongside the Director of Renewable Investments, with an emphasis on tax equity and tax credit monetization
  • Create repeatable processes, models, dashboards, and reporting tools for sourcing, underwriting, execution, asset management, and tax credit monetization
  • Partner with Tax, Treasury, Finance, Legal, Accounting, and Development to align investment strategy, reporting, liquidity planning, and execution
  • Bring an entrepreneurial mindset: identify gaps, solve problems, improve workflows, and build infrastructure that supports growth

Own Investment Execution

  • Lead the evaluation, financial analysis, diligence, structuring, negotiation, and closing of renewable investment opportunities, including tax equity and tax credit monetization transactions
  • Build, review, and pressure-test financial models, including return metrics, tax credit realization, capital accounts, cash distributions, sensitivities, and downside cases
  • Coordinate legal, tax, accounting, engineering, development, and external advisor workstreams from initial review through closing
  • Manage multiple transactions at once while maintaining quality, pace, judgment, and attention to detail

Manage Portfolio Performance

  • Own ongoing performance tracking, reporting, and risk management for MPI’s renewable investments portfolio
  • Monitor tax credit generation, credit monetization, cash distributions, yield performance, underwriting variances, and key investment risks
  • Keep portfolio information accurate, transparent, audit-ready, and decision-useful for leadership
  • Proactively identify issues, recommend solutions, and drive resolution across internal and external stakeholders

Source, Originate & Represent MPI

  • Develop relationships with developers, sponsors, advisors, lenders, tax credit buyers, and market participants
  • Track market pricing, deal structures, competitive dynamics, and emerging transferability strategies
  • Help build a qualified pipeline of investment opportunities aligned with MPI’s strategy and return objectives
  • Represent MPI with professionalism, responsiveness, and strong commercial judgment

Lead with Accountability

  • Operate with a high degree of ownership, independence, and follow-through
  • Present investment recommendations, risks, tradeoffs, and next steps clearly to senior leaders and executive audiences
  • Influence outcomes across teams without relying on direct authority
  • Help create a culture of rigor, urgency, collaboration, and accountability as the platform grows

Qualifications

Required

  • 6–10+ years of experience in tax equity, renewable project finance, infrastructure investing, investment banking, private equity, energy finance, or related roles
  • Strong financial modeling skills, including the ability to build, audit, and explain complex investment models
  • Understanding of renewable energy project economics, tax credits, depreciation, partnership structures, capital accounts, and waterfalls
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex workstreams, multiple priorities, and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present clearly, write concisely, and translate complexity into actionable recommendations

Preferred

  • Direct experience executing renewable tax equity or tax credit transfer transactions
  • Experience with transferability markets, tax credit monetization, project finance, or infrastructure investment
  • Familiarity with GAAP, tax accounting, investment reporting, or audit processes
  • CPA, CFA, MBA, or related credential is helpful but not required
