Our Engineers are a vital part of our organization, and we take pride in hiring and training the best in the industry. Duke Energy offers energy services to approximately 7.4 million customers in the Carolinas, Florida, Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. Our fleet of power plants has approximately 50,200 megawatts of generating capacity from a variety of fuel sources-from hydroelectric to coal, oil, and natural gas to nuclear. Click here to learn more about Duke Energy.This is an entry level engineering position within Duke Energy's Engineering job hierarchy. This Engineering position is responsible for Electrical, Control systems, and processes. This includes two GE 7F Combustion Turbines, one GE Steam Turbine and auxiliary equipment such as HRSGs, feed water system and fuel systems.
  • Provide daily operational and maintenance support for plant electrical and control systems.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance planning and reliability improvements.
  • Support outage planning, work scope development, and execution.
  • Review and update operating procedures, drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Identify and support O&M and capital improvement projects.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and OEM vendors to support equipment reliability.
  • Review inspection reports and assist with corrective action tracking.
  • Support engineering analysis, troubleshooting, and performance monitoring of plant equipment.
  • Prepare basic engineering reports, documentation, and reliability metrics.
  • Follow Environmental, Health, Safety, and Process Safety Management (PSM) standards.
  • Assist in engineering studies, problem analysis, and technical solutions under supervision.
  • Support planning, scheduling, and tracking of engineering and maintenance activities.
  • Participate in PSM activities such as management of change and incident investigations.
  • Monitor equipment performance and communicate recommended maintenance actions.
  • Represent Duke Energy professionally while supporting company goals.
Basic Qualifications
  • Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to review equipment specifications, drawings, and technical documents.
  • Familiarity with power plant systems such as turbines, HRSGs, boilers, or control systems (DCS).
  • Basic understanding of project management principles.
  • Knowledge of fundamental engineering theories and problem-solving methods.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with limited supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.

Working Conditions
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Onsite role at a power generation facility.
  • Must pass background check, drug screening, and required medical clearances.
  • Work in office and industrial power plant environments.
  • Potential exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust, humidity, and industrial hazards.
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Occasional physical activity including walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and lifting up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to work at heights and access all plant areas. Provide daily operational and maintenance support for plant electrical and control systems.
