To thrive as a Remote Energy Efficiency Program Manager, you need expertise in energy management, program administration, and a relevant degree in engineering, environmental science, or a related field. Familiarity with energy modeling software, data analysis tools, and industry certifications such as CEM (Certified Energy Manager) are typically required. Strong communication, project management, and problem-solving skills help you lead teams and engage stakeholders effectively. These capabilities are essential for designing impactful programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and achieving measurable energy savings remotely.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in remote energy efficiency program roles, and how can they overcome them?

One common challenge in remote energy efficiency program roles is maintaining clear communication with both internal teams and external stakeholders, as much of the collaboration happens virtually. Additionally, managing projects across different locations and time zones can require strong organizational skills and proactive scheduling. To overcome these challenges, professionals often leverage project management software, set regular check-ins, and establish clear documentation practices. Building strong relationships with local partners and staying updated on regional energy regulations can also help ensure program success.

What are remote energy efficiency programs?

Remote energy efficiency programs are initiatives designed to help individuals, businesses, or organizations improve their energy use without requiring in-person visits. Instead, these programs use digital tools, phone consultations, and online resources to assess energy consumption, provide recommendations, and support the implementation of energy-saving measures. Common services include virtual energy audits, remote monitoring, and guidance on upgrading appliances or building systems to be more efficient. These programs are especially useful for reaching participants in remote areas or during times when in-person interactions are limited.

This role will blend relationship-driven outreach with program coordination, process optimization, and hands-on project support to help deliver high-performing utility energy efficiency programs.
In this highly collaborative role, you will act as a key connector between utility clients, vendors, contractors, and internal teams. You will balance front-end engagement with back-end program execution, helping to onboard and support vendors, move projects forward, and continuously improve the processes and systems that drive program success.
This role is well suited for someone with approximately 3+ years of experience who is comfortable taking on a range of responsibilities and making an immediate impact. The right candidate enjoys building relationships, solving problems, improving workflows, and keeping things moving in a fast-paced environment.
Success in this role will be measured by strong partner relationships, consistent project momentum, program participation, operational efficiency, excellent communication internally and with client, and the ability to identify and implement process improvements that enhance program performance.
Resource Innovations (RI) is a women-led energy transformation firm focused on impact. Building on our expertise in energy efficiency, we're constantly expanding our portfolio of clean energy solutions to guide utilities through increasingly complex, connected challenges. Load flexibility. Electrification. Carbon reduction. With every step, we're leading the charge to power change.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for vendors, contractors, utility partners, and internal teams, building strong, trust-based relationships that support program participation and long-term engagement
  • Deliver vendor onboarding, training, and ongoing engagement, ensuring clear understanding of program requirements, tools, and processes
  • Drive project advancement through proactive communication, coordination, and follow-up, helping projects move efficiently from opportunity through completion
  • Support customers and vendors through the application process, helping to remove barriers, resolve issues, and ensure timely submissions
  • Balance external engagement with internal coordination, ensuring alignment between vendors, program requirements, and internal teams
  • Report on project and program activity, maintain trackers and databases, and ensure data accuracy and visibility across systems
  • Develop and support vendor-facing communications, including program updates, outreach emails, and educational materials
  • Identify process gaps, inefficiencies, or recurring issues, and recommend practical improvements to enhance program operations and scalability
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with program management, engineering, software, data, and marketing teams to improve workflows, reporting, and program delivery
  • Adapt quickly to evolving program needs, market conditions, and client priorities while maintaining a high level of responsiveness and accountability
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Business, Marketing, Communications, Economics, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Approximately 3+ years of experience in energy efficiency programs, account management, customer success, outreach, project coordination, or a related field
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across vendors, clients, and internal teams
  • Demonstrated ability to move work forward through organization, follow-up, and problem-solving
  • Comfort balancing people-facing responsibilities with administrative, operational, and process-driven work
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience working with spreadsheets, program portals, or CRM-type systems
  • Ability to identify inefficiencies and contribute to process improvements
  • Interest in sustainability, clean energy, and making a meaningful impact
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and ability to travel locally as needed
  • Interest in sustainability and passionate about making a meaningful impact on the environment.

Preferred skills, education and experience
  • Experience with utility energy efficiency programs, demand-side management, lighting, building systems, or construction-related environments
  • Experience working with subcontractors, vendors, community organizations, or utility clients
  • Exposure to program operations, reporting, or workflow/process improvement initiatives
