What is a senior project scheduler?

Senior Project Schedulers are experienced professionals who develop, maintain, and monitor project schedules for complex projects, often in industries like construction, engineering, or IT. They use specialized software to create timelines, allocate resources, and track progress to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. They also analyze potential risks or delays and collaborate with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to adjust plans as needed. Their expertise helps keep large-scale projects organized and on track.

How does a senior project scheduler typically collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to ensure project timelines are met?

A Senior Project Scheduler works closely with project managers, engineers, and key stakeholders to gather input for developing and maintaining detailed project schedules. They facilitate regular schedule review meetings to identify risks, resolve conflicts, and ensure alignment on project milestones. Effective communication and coordination are essential, as the scheduler must integrate updates from multiple teams and adjust timelines as needed to keep the project on track. This collaborative approach helps to proactively address potential delays and maintain project momentum.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior project scheduler, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Project Scheduler, you need advanced expertise in project planning, scheduling methodologies, and a solid background in project management, often supported by a degree in engineering or construction management. • Direct the development of resource-loaded and cost-loaded schedules in partnership with project controls, estimating, and finance personnel.
  • Review and provide quality assurance on schedules prepared by other schedulers; approve schedule deliverables prior to internal review and client submission.
  • Serve as the senior scheduling representative in client, executive, and project reviews; present schedule status, critical path, forecasts, and risk to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Mentor, train, and provide technical guidance to Schedulers and project controls staff; build scheduling capability and consistent practices across the organization.
  • Evaluate and recommend scheduling tools, methods, and process improvements; lead adoption of best practices in Primavera P6 and related project controls platforms.
  • Coordinate the integration of subcontractor schedules into the master project schedule and ensure alignment with contract schedule requirements across concurrent projects.
  • Perform special projects and complete other duties as assigned or requested.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Safeguard on-time delivery of Dacon's most complex projects by providing authoritative schedule leadership that anticipates risk and drives proactive corrective action.
  • Protect Dacon's contractual and commercial position through rigorous, defensible schedule analysis that supports change orders, claims, and dispute resolution.
