The Senior Production Control Specialist position is responsible for leading production planning, scheduling, material coordination, and manufacturing execution to support on-time delivery, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction. This role serves as a key leader within Operations and works cross-functionally with Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Quality, Service, and Project Management to ensure production schedules are aligned with customer commitments and company objectives.

This position will drive continuous improvement initiatives, optimize ERP system utilization, improve schedule adherence, and develop standardized production control processes across the organization.

Roles and Responsibilities

Production Planning & Scheduling

  • Lead all production control and scheduling activities for manufacturing operations
  • Develop and maintain detailed production schedules based on customer demand, material availability, labor capacity, and engineering release dates
  • Monitor manufacturing progress and proactively address schedule risks, shortages, and bottlenecks
  • Coordinate priorities across fabrication, machining, welding, assembly, electrical, paint, and testing departments
  • Maintain accurate shipment forecasts and communicate schedule changes to stakeholders
  • Drive schedule recovery plans for delayed projects and support execution of corrective actions

ERP / Systems Management

  • Serve as a primary operations lead for ERP system utilization and process discipline (D365 preferred)
  • Ensure manufacturing routers, BOMs, lead times, and planning data are accurate and maintained
  • Drive system compliance and eliminate manual workarounds outside the ERP system
  • Develop reporting tools and dashboards to improve visibility into:
    • On-Time Delivery (OTD)
    • Production status
    • Labor utilization
    • Material shortages
    • Capacity planning
    • Revenue and margin forecasting
  • Partner with IT and Finance to improve production reporting and project visibility

Materials & Supply Chain Coordination

  • Work closely with Purchasing and the Stockroom to ensure material availability aligns with production schedules
  • Lead shortage review meetings and escalation processes
  • Monitor critical supplier performance and support expediting efforts when required
  • Ensure shortages are identified well in advance of production start dates

Operations Leadership

  • Lead and mentor Production Control personnel and planners
  • Coordinate cross-functional communication between Manufacturing, Engineering, Project Management, and Purchasing
  • Support daily production meetings, Gemba walks, and operational review meetings
  • Establish and maintain KPI tracking and accountability systems
  • Drive Lean manufacturing principles including visual management, standard work, RCCM processes, and continuous improvement initiatives

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve throughput, reduce lead times, and increase schedule accuracy
  • Implement Lean tools and process improvements throughout manufacturing operations
  • Support Kaizen events and operational excellence initiatives
  • Standardize production control procedures and reporting methods across facilities when applicable

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in supply chain, Operations Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Business, or related field preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in production control, manufacturing planning, scheduling, or operations leadership
  • Experience in heavy industrial equipment manufacturing, custom fabrication, or engineered-to-order environments preferred
  • Strong ERP experience required; Microsoft Dynamics 365 experience highly preferred
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including welding, machining, assembly, electrical, and testing operations
  • Proven leadership and team development experience
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and reporting capabilities preferred
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies preferred
