QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering required or technical degree and experience equivalent to degree will be considered

EXPERIENCE: 15-20 years Foundry Engineering Experience. With experience in gating and risering of Non-Ferrous alloys including aluminum, tooling design and process development. Nobake sand casting experience and understanding of aerospace specifications, requirements and quality systems would be beneficial. Magnesium casting experience would also be beneficial.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Performs a variety of engineering assignments in development and production support of Magnesium and Aluminum aerospace sand castings. Implements production/processing methods and controls to meet quality standards in the most cost-efficient manner. Investigates and resolves work-in-process problems. Recommends and implements improvements and/or modifications in sequence of operations and related matters. Monitors assigned operations to assure compliance with approved methods and quality standards. Oversee and manage the development of new casting programs including tool design and build, process development and dimensional and metallurgical approvals. This is a senior position within the engineering department and individual will be expected to drive and maintain his or her designated programs with minimal supervision. This individual will be expected to mentor and assist product engineers with lessor or no experience in foundry disciplines.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Design gating, riser and chilling system for aluminum and magnesium aerospace castings to ensure compliance with all customers’ specifications
  • In conjunction with CAD Technician, Tooling Vendor, manufacturing and pattern shop personnel, determine the optimum tool design for the manufacturing processes
  • Design and determine development samples and trial castings or programs, process and review through all manufacturing, inspection and dimensional departments
  • Interpret inspection results, investigate nonconforming castings and institute corrective action, sample and confirm corrective measures, document and amend process procedures
  • Investigate and resolve production problems
  • Work with quality engineer to resolve internal and customer driven quality issues.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining part number work instructions for all casting process areas
  • New casting program development, including tooling, processes and approvals.
  • Communication and concurrent engineering with customer technical and commercial groups
  • Be familiar with customer and regulatory specifications
  • Be familiar with all internal work instructions and forms, and maintain good ISO practices
  • Be part of and/or lead a continuous improvement team that may include projects or subjects outside of your normal job activities.
  • Ability to travel to customer facilities and vendor facilities necessary.
