What does a senior product designer do?

A senior product designer leads a team of product designers in the design strategy and creation of new products. Product designers work in several industries, including manufacturing, software design, and government. In this career, your responsibilities involve significant outreach to stakeholders and customers to determine how best to serve their needs. You work with other product designers and user experience professionals to design prototypes of the product for testing before presenting the completed work. As a senior designer, your duties may also include training new employees and maintaining open communication with other departments during the design process.

What does a senior product designer do?

A Senior Product Designer is responsible for leading the design of user experiences and interfaces for digital products, such as apps or websites. They work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers and product managers, to understand user needs and translate them into intuitive, visually appealing designs. Senior Product Designers also mentor junior designers, contribute to design strategy, and ensure that the final product aligns with business goals and user expectations.

How does a senior product designer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a product’s development cycle?

Senior Product Designers work closely with product managers, engineers, and user researchers throughout the product development process. They are often involved in early-stage brainstorming sessions, user journey mapping, and translating business requirements into intuitive design solutions. Effective communication and collaboration are essential, as designers must balance user needs, technical constraints, and business goals while iterating on prototypes. Regular design reviews and feedback sessions with stakeholders are common, ensuring alignment and smooth project progression.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior product designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Product Designer, you need expertise in user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design, a strong portfolio, and typically a degree in design or a related field. Mastery of design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, and prototyping platforms, along with knowledge of design systems, is essential. Exceptional collaboration, problem-solving, and communication skills help foster alignment between cross-functional teams and stakeholders. These skills ensure that products are not only visually appealing but also user-centric and aligned with business goals, driving successful outcomes.

Job description

Help redefine customer support for the AI era.

Most companies are running support on ticketing systems built in 2007, with AI bolted on as an afterthought.

Botpress is the enterprise-grade AI agent platform for customer support - built the other way around.

As the 3rd fastest-growing B2B AI start-up worldwide, we're displacing legacy platforms like Zendesk at scale - across industries, regions, and thousands of companies worldwide.

The work ahead is ambitious. The opportunity is rare. We take a deliberate approach to growth: product-led, capital-efficient, and highly focused.

If you want to build the customer support platform for the AI era, we're looking for top talent to join us.

About the Role

We're hiring a Senior Product Designer with a strong emphasis on visual craft, reporting to our Head of UX. This role is less about research and abstract flows, and more about how Botpress actually looks and feels - polish, hierarchy, motion, and interaction detail across the platform. AI-native products are a new design frontier: the patterns aren't established yet, and we're hiring someone who can define them with a level of finish that makes the product feel effortless. You'll still think in systems and workflows, but your standout skill is making complex interfaces beautiful and precise.

A portfolio is required to apply. We'll be looking primarily at visual and interaction craft - typography, layout, color, motion, and attention to detail in shipped UI - more than case-study narratives.

Responsibilities
  • Own the visual and interaction design of major product areas end to end, from early concept to shipped detail
  • Set and raise the bar for visual quality across the product - typography, layout, color, motion, and micro-interactions
  • Contribute to building our design system and maintain visual consistency across the product
  • Generate original concepts for AI-native interactions
  • Design user interfaces and flows that make complex functionality feel simple
  • Create wireframes, mockups, and prototypes to communicate design ideas
  • Collaborate with engineers to ensure designs are implemented accurately, down to the pixel
  • Iterate quickly based on internal input, usage data, and real-world constraints
  • Participate in user feedback and testing to inform design decisions
  • Document your work clearly for collaboration and handoff

Requirements

  • 4-6 years of experience in product or visual design
  • Exceptional visual craft - this is the core of the role
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating visual and interaction design in shipped software
  • Comfortable working on complex systems or technical products
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and with owning a problem beyond the interface
  • Fluent in Figma and able to iterate quickly
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and curious about how users actually experience software
  • Able to give and receive feedback in a collaborative environment
  • Bonus: Experience working with developer tools, AI products, or SaaS platforms
  • Bonus: Experience building or scaling a design system
  • Bonus: Motion design or advanced prototyping skills (e.g. Rive, Origami, code-based prototyping)
  • Bonus: Familiarity with usability testing or user research methods
About Botpress

Botpress raised a $25 million Series B round in 2025. We're building the enterprise-grade AI agent platform for customer support - not by adding AI to old infrastructure, but by building AI-first from day one.

As a fast-growing start-up, we run a lean and innovative ship that leans on AI for maximum business impact. At Botpress, everyone is an owner, bringing their unique perspective and talents. We intentionally hire individuals who are eager, passionate, talented, and hungry to learn and grow throughout their career.

We operate fully in-office, with a culture that values both technical rigor and shared ambition.

You'll be on a team that's not just adapting to the AI revolution, but leading it. Joining our team means changing how millions of customers interact with the companies they do business with - and building the platform that defines the next era of customer support.

Benefits

  • Work with a talented and passionate team
  • 4 weeks of vacation
  • Paid sick and parental leave
  • Comprehensive health, dental, vision, travel, and life insurance
  • Funding for education and skills improvement
  • Fully-stocked fridge and cupboard - we take snacks seriously
  • Your own desk - no 'hot-desk'-style sign-up systems
  • A vibrant office community
