Job description

Project Renewal is a leading non-profit organization with the mission of ending the cycle of homelessness by empowering individuals and families to renew their lives with health, homes, and jobs. Our comprehensive and integrated 24/7 programs are designed to offer the holistic care our clients need. With a staff of 950+ and an annual budget of $82 million, Project Renewal is one of the larger social service nonprofits in New York City.

Title: Occupational Therapist

Location: Bedford Green House I

Hours: Monday – Friday ; 35 hours/week

Reports To: Assigned Senior Occupational Therapist

Salary: $85,000 - $90,000

Program Overview:

Under the supervision of the assigned Senior Occupational Therapist, the Occupational Therapist will assist each client with developing the skills necessary to perform Activities of Daily Living at their optimal level of independence, and to promote each individual’s ability to remain stably housed with the greatest degree of health, safety, productivity, and dignity possible. This Occupational Therapist will work as part of the OT team to provide programming for families, children and youth, older adults, and single adults residing at Bedford Green House.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential duties of the Occupational Therapist include but are not limited to the following activities:

  • Ensuring that clients are aware of the OT program and all available services.

  • Developing, implementing, and leading skill-based OT groups to address client needs and goals.

  • Conducting individual client assessments and developing corresponding treatment plans.

  • Conducting 1:1 OT sessions focused on developing skills for effective ADL performance.

  • Working with clients in their home and community environments to maximize function and safety.

  • Accompanying clients to appointments for medical and/or psychiatric treatment, drug user health services, benefits assistance, school-based meetings, leisure and/or vocational exploration, etc.

  • Linking clients to appropriate community-based services.

  • Planning building-wide special events and community outings.

  • Documenting all clinical work as per program requirements.

  • Collaborating with the BGH II OT on integrated programming as indicated.

  • Collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team including the Program Director, Clinical Coordinator, Learning Center Director, Case Managers, Peers, the program Psychiatrist, the Horticultural Therapist, Maintenance staff, Security staff, and others.

  • Assisting with on-site supervision of Level I and II OT interns.

  • Participating in weekly clinical staff meetings and high-risk calls.

  • Participating in monthly OT Department Meetings and other department-wide initiatives.

  • Participating in weekly supervision with the assigned Senior Occupational Therapist.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy

  • current valid NYS licensure, or temporary licensure at time of hire

  • Training and/or experience in community based mental health is strongly preferred but not necessary

  • Candidates must demonstrate a trauma-informed approach to care and a commitment to equity and inclusion.

  • Additional responsibilities and/or requirements may be determined based upon the specific program and client population’s unique needs.
