Job description

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Information and Network Security, this senior-level, hands-on engineering role is responsible for designing, implementing, optimizing, and supporting the college's statewide Wide Area Network (WAN) and Local Area Network (LAN). The Sr. Network Engineer Team Lead provides strategic technical direction, mentors the statewide network engineering team, and serves as the primary subject matter expert for all data and Internet services across the Ivy Tech campus network.
NOTE: Must reside within a 45-minute commute of the Indianapolis area to meet emergency response requirements.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Design, manage, and support statewide LAN/WAN, Internet access, disaster recovery (DR), wireless, and VPN services
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot routers, switches, and wireless technologies
  • Review and recommend enhancements to the college's data and telecommunications infrastructure to drive continuous service improvement
  • Keep current with evolving network hardware and software capabilities and incorporate best-practice standards
  • Analyze assigned problems and develop solutions; guide the end-to-end implementation of network projects
  • Develop communication plans for both planned and unplanned outages
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, inventory, and security measures associated with the college network infrastructure
  • Maintain high standards of quality by developing effective operational procedures and system documentation
  • Provide mentoring leadership to the statewide network engineering team
  • Share expertise with peers and foster a team-oriented environment
  • Work effectively and diplomatically with peers, customers, and external entities
  • Present technical sessions and serve on task forces as requested

HIRING RANGE: $105,000 - $115,000
COMMUTE REQUIREMENT: Must reside within a 45-minute commute of the Indianapolis area to meet emergency response requirements.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Associate's degree in a related field with documented work experience. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Five or more years of hands-on work experience in a technical environment. Experience in higher education preferred.
  • Extensive experience with Cisco and Juniper environments
  • Extensive experience with OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, and Multicast
  • Extensive experience with enterprise network design and architecture
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and diagnose network and application performance issues
  • Strong network documentation skills and experience creating network diagrams
  • Experience with QoS, VLANs, ACLs, PBR, IP SLAs, HA technologies
  • Experience with different types of wiring, cable types, and standards
  • Experience with optical multiplexing technologies
  • Experience with common network protocols and services
  • Experience configuring and deploying different types of VPN technologies
  • Familiarity with Zero Trust networking principles and network security best practices, with a willingness to help evaluate and implement a Zero Trust framework
  • Experience with enterprise network management and monitoring solutions
  • Outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

DESIRED SKILLS:
  • Production experience with software-defined networks
  • API network management
  • Production experience with Nexus, Meraki, ACI, Mist, and UCS platforms
  • Professional certifications: CCNP, JNCIP
