Tax Manager/Senior Tax Manager (SALT)
Our client is seeking an experienced Tax Manager or Senior Tax Manager with strong State and Local Tax (SALT) expertise to join a collaborative, relationship-driven accounting and advisory team. The ideal candidate combines technical tax knowledge with sound business judgment, strong client communication, and a passion for developing others while contributing to a supportive environment that values professional growth, flexibility, and sustainable work-life balance.

This role is a hybrid model in Portland, Oregon.

Tax Manager/Senior Tax Manager (SALT) Responsibilities

  • Lead complex state and local tax compliance and advisory engagements, ensuring accurate, timely, and strategically focused client deliverables.
  • Advise clients on multi-state income and franchise tax matters, including nexus, apportionment, combined reporting, entity considerations, state tax provisions, and related planning opportunities.
  • Build trusted client relationships by communicating tax developments, identifying potential risks and opportunities, and translating complex technical matters into practical recommendations.
  • Manage engagement planning, budgets, staffing, workflow, billing, and execution across multiple concurrent projects while balancing client service and business objectives.
  • Mentor and develop tax professionals while collaborating across service areas to strengthen client relationships, identify additional advisory opportunities, and support continued practice growth.

Tax Manager/Senior Tax Manager (SALT) Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, with 57+ years of progressive tax experience; CPA strongly preferred at the Manager level and required at the Senior Manager level.
  • Strong State and Local Tax expertise, including multi-state income and franchise taxation, nexus, apportionment, combined reporting, compliance, technical research, and tax planning.
  • Recent Oregon and/or Washington tax experience, with the ability to advise businesses operating across multiple state and local jurisdictions.
  • Demonstrated experience leading tax engagements, managing competing priorities, developing client relationships, and coaching or supervising other tax professionals.
  • Senior Manager candidates must bring 7+ years of recent public accounting tax experience, including leadership of complex SALT engagements and experience developing teams and managing senior-level client relationships.

Salary: $108K-$200K/year. (DOE)
