Status: This is a full-time, seasonal, 29-week, 900-hour AmeriCorps National Service Program.

Purpose
Southeast Conservation Corps (SECC):
Empowering youth and adults to cultivate compassion, responsibility and life skills through community service, hardworkand land stewardship.
Southeast Conservation Corps,aprogram of Conservation Legacy, is a non-profit AmeriCorps program. We engage youth (age15-17) and young adults (ages 18-30, up to 35 for veterans) in service projects on public lands throughout the Southeast. SECC collaborates with land management agencies (United States Forest Service, National Park Service, State Parks, local municipalities, and non-profits) to host day or overnight camping crews and individual placements.
Our AmeriCorps positions provideimpactful educational and service opportunities thatbenefitboth communities and landscapes.SECC's participants reflect the population of the Southeast region, including youth, graduates, veterans, and individuals from various backgrounds.
Jimmy Carter National Historical Park:
Jimmy Carter National Historical Park is to benefit, inspire, and educate present and future generations by interpreting the stories of Jimmy Carter's life and preserving the resources associated with those stories.
Position Overview:
SECC, in partnership with Jimmy Carter National Historical Park, will host a Natural Resource Technician. This Natural Resource Technician is an AmeriCorps position that will help support the administrative and scientific need for robust, well-organized natural resource data. By focusing on Carter Pond, the project will advance the park's capacity to understand, protect, and manage this aquatic resource. The project will ensure the pond's ecological condition is documented through regular monitoring, formal assessment activities, and collaboration with park resource staff.
Description of Duties:
Collect, organize, and analyze ecological and physical data related to Carter Pond
- Collect weekly water quality measurements
- Record daily observations of flora/fauna around the pond
- Communicate data to park staff
Perform routine biological inventory and monitoring activities to update species occurrence records
- Record species observed and occurrence
- Provide relevant species information for updating web-based species list
- Take photos to be used for species list
Collaborate with Park Staff to plan and execute a park-wide BioBlitz
- Assist with interdisciplinary park teams to design a BioBlitz focused on documenting plant and animal species found across Jimmy Carter NHP
- Support logistical planning, outreach, data management, volunteer coordination, and reporting of results
- Determine best methods for recording data
Potential environmental/human risk involved with this term of service: Projects will occur around a body of water - slippery/wet conditions; venomous snakes in area. Failure to comply with safety requirements may result in injury.
Qualifications:
- United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien
- Must be between ages 18 and 30, or up to 35 ifa military veteran
- Bachelor's degree in biology, wildlife management, natural resource recreation, or similar experience in flora/fauna identification
- Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check
- You must possess a valid driver's license and pass Conservation Legacy's Driver Insurability requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in biology, wildlife management, natural resource recreation
- Or two years of field experience with flora/fauna identification and data collection
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting
- Willingness to work outdoors in varied weather conditions
Transportation:
A personal vehicle is required to report to/from the service site/office, and for all personal business. A National Park Service vehicle will be provided for transportation to conduct operations within the park. This Individual Placement must be a driver and pass Conservation Legacy's driver insurability requirements.
Housing:
Housing will not be provided. Park staff will assist with finding housing in the local area near the park.

Some positions may require periodic overnight travel, non-traditional hours, ability to move across varied terrain, use program-specific tools and a range of technology on an infrequent or frequent basis. Time Requirements:
- Typically, this position is expected to serve Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week - but exact service schedules may vary and will include evening and weekend service depending on project needs.
- A half hour lunch break will not be counted towards AmeriCorps service.
- Members may be required to participate in national, state, or local service projects or events as part of their service term.
Orientation and Training:
- Members will receive an orientation that includes training on AmeriCorps prohibited and unallowable activities.
Evaluation and Reporting:
As an AmeriCorps member, performance will be evaluated on whether the member has completed the required number of hours, the member has satisfactorily completed assignments, and if the member has met other performance criteria that were clearly communicated at the beginning of the term of service.
Reporting requirements include, but are not limited to:
- Bi-weekly timesheets
- Monthly Accomplishment Report
- Narrative Monthly Report.

- Midterm and Final Evals
- Exiting Tasks
