Job description

Dometic is a global market leader in the mobile living industry. Millions of people around the world use Dometic products in outdoor, residential, and professional applications. Dometic Land Vehicles Americas is a trusted provider of high-end products for recreational vehicles, commercial passenger vehicles and overlanding vehicles in North America, Latin America, and the Caribbean. We are on a journey of continuous growth - now looking for our next star - a passionate Senior Materials Planner. This position will work in Elkhart, IN, area.
About the position:
As the Senior Materials Planner, you will play critical execution role within Dometic's Elkhart manufacturing operation, responsible for ensuring the right materials are available at the right time to sustain uninterrupted production and meet customer demand. This role combines material planning discipline with direct purchasing execution - owning the full cycle from ERP-driven purchase proposals through supplier order management, inbound tracking, and inventory performance.
Beyond day-to-day execution, the Material Planner III is expected to bring analytical rigor to the role - using advanced Excel and Power BI to monitor inventory health, identify risks before they impact the line, and communicate material status clearly to stakeholders across Manufacturing, Customer Service, Sales, and Supply Chain.
Main Responsibilities
Material Planning & Inventory Management
  • Own inventory levels for assigned component categories - monitoring availability against production schedules, setting and maintaining ERP planning parameters (safety stock, reorder points, lot sizes, lead times), and proactively managing surpluses and shortages.
  • Review, analyze, and action material purchase proposals generated by the ERP system - validating planning logic and adjusting as needed based on current demand signals and supplier lead times.
  • Forecast near-term inventory surpluses and shortages within the planning horizon - initiating expedites or de-expedites with suppliers to maintain target inventory levels and prevent production disruptions.
  • Monitor slow-moving and excess inventory within assigned categories - flagging exposure to the Operations Manager and supporting disposition actions to protect inventory health.
  • Maintain accurate ERP master data for assigned items - lead times, MOQs, supplier assignments, and planning parameters - as a foundational discipline supporting system-driven planning.

Purchasing & Supplier Execution
  • Release and manage purchase orders to suppliers - ensuring orders are placed accurately, on time, and aligned with production requirements and approved supplier agreements.
  • Provide rolling forecasts to suppliers as required, giving partners the visibility needed to plan capacity and material commitments in support of Dometic's production schedule.
  • Own the follow-up cadence on past-due purchase orders - proactively tracking open orders, confirming delivery commitments, and escalating at-risk deliveries with sufficient lead time to protect the production line.
  • Resolve invoice and goods receipt discrepancies in coordination with Accounts Payable and the warehouse - ensuring purchase orders are closed accurately and on time.
  • Build and maintain professional working relationships with suppliers - communicating Dometic's requirements clearly, managing performance expectations, and escalating issues through the appropriate channels.

Cross-Functional Communication & Execution Support
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for material status within the factory - proactively communicating potential shortages, delivery risks, and inventory constraints to Manufacturing, Warehouse, Customer Service, Sales, Sourcing, and Supply Chain stakeholders.
  • Participate in and contribute to production planning and material review meetings - providing accurate, data-backed updates on material availability and near-term risk.
  • Partner with the warehouse and production teams to align inbound material flow with production schedules, minimizing disruption from late deliveries or staging issues.

Analytics, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
  • Build and maintain Excel-based planning models and Power BI dashboards to track inventory positions, purchase order status, supplier on-time delivery, and material shortage risk - delivering clear weekly visibility to the Operations Manager and relevant stakeholders.
  • Use advanced Excel capabilities - pivot tables, Power Query, dynamic formulas, scenario modeling - to analyze planning data, identify exceptions, and support decision-making with structured, repeatable reporting.
  • Track and report key planning metrics: inventory days of supply, fill rate, supplier OTIF (on-time-in-full), and purchase order lead time adherence.
  • Identify recurring planning and purchasing failures - root-cause the drivers and partner with Operations and Supply Chain teams to implement systemic corrections.

What do we offer?
You are offered an interesting role in a dynamic, fast paced, and global environment with great opportunities to grow and take on new challenges. The growth at Dometic is continuous - which gives you great possibilities to evolve with the company.

  • 3-5 years of experience in material planning, purchasing, or a combined planner/buyer role within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • APICS CPIM certification is a plus.
  • Hands-on ERP experience required, Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) strongly preferred; demonstrated ability to work with MRP outputs, purchase proposals, and planning parameters.
