Job description

Purpose:
The Senior Manager Tax will be a key member of the Athene tax team managing the tax accounting and tax compliance functions. The Senior Manager Tax will be primarily focused on managing and reviewing income tax calculations pursuant to ASC 740, the filing of various corporate tax returns, improving tax provision and compliance processes, performing tax sensitive scenario and data analysis, and providing tax and other accounting support for business decisions.
Accountabilities:
  • Manage the quarterly tax provision process for all domestic and foreign legal entities pursuant to ASC 740. This includes but is not limited to the preparation and/or review of the effective tax rate calculation, current tax payable/(receivable), tax basis balance sheets, return to provision, and income tax disclosures for forms 10-Q and 10-K.
  • Manage the corporate federal and state tax returns, estimates, and extension processes and coordinate with our service providers.
  • Review intercompany tax settlement calculations pursuant to our tax sharing agreement.
  • Assist with workpaper and process improvement for both tax provision and compliance.
  • Assist with developing, executing, and documenting SOX compliant internal controls and providing control documentation to internal and external auditors.
  • Mentoring and building necessary skillsets of team members responsible for preparing tax workpapers.
  • Proactively identify, document, and communicate recommendations for process improvements.

Qualifications and Experience:
  • 6+ years of relevant experience and/or industry experience with strong exposure to financial reporting; including 5+ years of experience with tax provisions (preparation and/or review) preferred
  • Proven success in rapidly changing and scaling environments
  • Experience in life insurance, annuities, or financial services is preferred
  • Experience with OneSource and/or CorpTax is preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field is required; CPA preferred
