AV CAD / BIM Technician - Sr. Level

Position Summary

The Senior AV CAD/BIM Technician leads the development, coordination, and quality control of AV system drawings and BIM models across multiple projects. This role is responsible for ensuring technical accuracy, enforcing standards, mentoring junior staff, and coordinating directly with project engineers. The senior technician plays a critical role in integrating AV systems into complex building environments.

Responsibilities

BIM Leadership & Advanced Modeling Lead AV BIM modeling efforts using Autodesk Revit Develop and maintain advanced BIM families and parametric components Define and enforce BIM standards, LOD requirements, and workflows Perform and lead clash detection and coordination using Autodesk Navisworks Coordinate directly with architects, engineers, and contractors CAD & Documentation Oversight Produce and review: o Complex signal flow diagrams o Rack elevations o System schematics o Installation details Ensure drawing packages meet construction and submittal requirements Review and approve junior team output Project Coordination & Leadership Act as primary CAD/BIM point of contact for projects Lead coordination meetings and resolve spatial/system conflicts Work closely with: o Engineering o Project management o Field teams Provide constructability feedback and value engineering input Standards & Process Development Develop and maintain CAD/BIM standards and libraries Improve workflows, templates, and efficiencies Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., AVIXA guidelines) Mentorship & Training Train and mentor entry-level and mid-level technicians Provide technical guidance and best practices Support team development and onboarding Project Delivery Support Oversee submittal and as-built documentation Ensure alignment between design intent and field installation Assist in commissioning documentation and closeout Qualifications

Qualifications

Required: 5+ years of experience in AV, low-voltage, or BIM/CAD role Advanced proficiency in: o Autodesk Revit o AutoCAD Strong understanding of AV systems and signal flow Experience coordinating with multiple trades in BIM environments Preferred: Experience with large-scale commercial or enterprise AV projects Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu Knowledge of BIM execution plans and LOD standards Experience leading teams or projects Skills Advanced technical and problem-solving ability Leadership and mentoring skills Strong communication and coordination skills High attention to detail and quality control Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines Preferred Certifications AVIXA CTS or CTS-D Autodesk Revit Certification
