About the Organization
Upper Montclair is a private 27-hole golf club located 9 miles West of New York City. The
course was originally designed by A.W. Tillinghast in 1929. In the 1950's, a major course
renovation was directed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. which transformed Upper Montclair Country
Club into its present 27-hole Championship design. Upper Montclair Country Club has a strong
tradition of producing championship conditions and is considered to be one of the best private
clubs in northern New Jersey.

Position Summary:
The Host/Hostess plays a key role in creating a welcoming and memorable dining experience for members and guests. As the first point of contact, the Host/Hostess sets the tone for exceptional service and hospitality. Responsibilities include greeting and seating guests, managing reservation and wait lists, answering phones, and assisting with light service and housekeeping tasks to ensure the overall cleanliness and organization of the dining area. This position requires strong communication skills, a friendly and professional demeanor, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Warmly welcome all guests with a genuine smile and professional demeanor; escort them to their assigned tables and present menus.
  • Manage the flow of guests in the dining and bar areas, utilizing reservation and waitlist software.
  • Communicate accurate wait times and accommodate seating preferences when possible.
  • Inform guests of daily specials and introduce their server to ensure a smooth transition.
  • Answer incoming calls, respond to inquiries, and take to-go orders when needed.
  • Monitor and maintain cleanliness of entryways, menus, and restrooms throughout service.
  • Refill beverages and assist with clearing and resetting tables to support service staff.
  • Adhere to all sanitation, safety, and alcohol control policies.
  • Respond promptly and courteously to guest needs and special requests.
  • Collaborate with the service team to deliver a seamless, high-quality dining experience.

Requirements:
  • Friendly, outgoing, and professional attitude.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Neat, clean, and professional appearance.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, and lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Familiarity with fine dining or high-end hospitality environments preferred.
  • Previous experience as a host or in a customer service role is a plus.
  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to commit to working 3-4 shifts per week.
