Position: Seasonal Host/Hostess
Department: Food & Beverage
Location: Bayside Kitchen & Bar - Hilton Garden Inn San Diego Downtown/Bayside
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Restaurant Manager / Food & Beverage Manager
Employment Type: Seasonal Position (July-October), requires open availability including weekends and holidays

Position Summary:

The Seasonal Host/Hostess is the first and last point of contact for restaurant guests, responsible for creating a warm, welcoming first impression. This temporary, seasonal role is essential in managing guest flow, seating, and reservation logistics to ensure an exceptional dining experience during peak operational periods.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Guest Reception & Greeting

  • Greet all guests warmly and professionally upon arrival.

  • Confirm reservations or assist walk-in guests with seating options.

  • Ensure each guest feels welcomed and valued.

Seating Management

  • Maintain an organized reservation and seating chart.

  • Escort guests promptly to assigned tables and manage waitlists effectively.

  • Communicate accurate wait times during busy shifts.

Reservation Handling

  • Accept and manage reservations by phone, online, or in person.

  • Notify guests when tables are ready and keep all systems current.

Customer Service

  • Answer guest questions about the menu, restaurant, and specials.

  • Address special requests and concerns in a courteous and professional manner.

  • Contribute to a positive guest experience from arrival to departure.

Team Coordination

  • Coordinate guest flow with servers and restaurant leadership.

  • Support team members to ensure efficient operations during peak hours.

Front Area Maintenance

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization at the host stand and entryway.

  • Ensure an inviting and professional front-of-house appearance.

Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to all health, safety, and occupancy regulations.

  • Follow hotel and brand policies regarding guest interaction and compliance.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist with large parties or events.

  • Provide general support to front-of-house staff during high volume periods.


Qualifications and Skills:
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Friendly, professional demeanor with a guest-first attitude.

  • Ability to multitask and stay organized under pressure.

  • Previous customer service or hosting experience preferred.
