Job description

Job Summary:
Under the direction of the HIM Manager, the HIM Deficiency Analyst is responsible for managing, reviewing, and ensuring the completion of Health Information Management (HIM) record deficiencies to maintain clinical documentation integrity. This position will review, analyze, and resolve problems/errors concerning incomplete medical records within EHR systems to ensure compliance with medical staff bylaws and regulatory standards. Validates and monitors deficiency assignments, Iris calls, and patient portal messages to ensure accurate, timely, and complete documentation routing. This position is responsible for reporting patient deaths to the Electronic Death Registration System (EDRS) accurately and consistently within mandated timeframes. Supports development of system enhancements or connections that impact chart completion and provider workflows. Interacts with other departments, physicians, and clinical staff to facilitate the timely completion of the medical record. Monitors and maintains accuracy and completeness of deficiency tracking workflows. Collaborates within and outside the department to clinicians regarding chart completion requirements. Corrects deficiency data as necessary and works with managers to ensure consistency and uniformity in documentation standards from one system to another. Performs other duties as assigned to support department operations, including cross-training and assisting in alternative HIM functional areas.

Qualifications:
Education/Skills
Associate degree in Health Information or related field preferred. RHIA/RHIT program preferred. Required to be computer literate and proficient in Windows, Excel, Access, Word, and other PC applications. Required to be detail-oriented and to be an excellent communicator.
Work Experience:
Two to five years of relevant work experience to include EHR experience in a healthcare environment such as Patient Accounts, Information Systems, Business Office, or Health Information Management. Experience with Epic or other electronic healthcare record preferred. Must have experience in data entry, keyboarding. Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite products with proficiency in Excel and Word required. Knowledge of electronic medical record systems as well as content of the electronic medical record required.
