How much do senior genomics jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 10, 2026, the average yearly pay for senior genomics in the United States is $80,287.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $41,500.00 and $103,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What biology jobs pay over $100k?

Senior genomics roles, such as Senior Genomics Scientist or Director of Genomics, often pay over $100,000 annually, especially with advanced skills in bioinformatics, next-generation sequencing, and data analysis. These positions are typically found in biotech companies, research institutions, or pharmaceutical firms and may require a master's or Ph.D. degree and relevant experience.

What is the difference between Senior Genomics vs Genomics Technician?

AspectSenior GenomicsGenomics Technician
Required CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Genetics, Biology, or related field; experience in genomics researchAssociate's degree or certification in genetics or laboratory techniques
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, biotech companies, academic institutionsLaboratory settings, sample processing, data collection
Employer & Industry UsageResearch projects, biotech firms, healthcareLaboratory support, sample preparation, data entry
Common Search & ComparisonSenior Genomics vs Genomics Technician

Senior Genomics professionals typically hold advanced degrees and lead research initiatives, while Genomics Technicians focus on sample processing and data collection. The senior role involves more oversight and complex analysis, whereas technicians support daily laboratory operations. Both roles are essential in genomics research and often work together within the same industry environments.

Will AI replace geneticists?

AI can assist geneticists by analyzing large datasets, identifying patterns, and automating routine tasks, but it is unlikely to fully replace the expertise, critical thinking, and decision-making skills of a senior genomics professional. Geneticists will continue to play a vital role in interpreting results, designing experiments, and applying ethical considerations in genomics research and clinical practice.

Is genomics a good career?

Genomics is a growing field that offers opportunities for research, data analysis, and laboratory work, often requiring skills in bioinformatics and molecular biology. Careers in genomics can be rewarding with high demand for specialists in research institutions, biotech companies, and healthcare, though they typically require advanced degrees and continuous learning. Job stability and growth depend on technological advancements and funding in the field.

Is genetics a high paying job?

A senior genomics position typically offers a high salary compared to many other scientific roles, especially with advanced skills in bioinformatics, laboratory techniques, and data analysis. Salaries can vary based on experience, location, and industry, but senior roles often include competitive compensation packages and benefits.
