Job Description
Summary
Maintains responsibility for independently developing, maintaining, and continuously improving Subaru's technical training curriculum to support evolving vehicle technologies and technician readiness by designing and delivering engaging e-learning and instructor-led training (ILT) programs, while collaborating with subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure technical accuracy, relevance, and best practice instructional design. Researches and applies emerging automotive technologies and innovative training delivery methods including simulations, video, live broadcast, and extended reality (XR) to keep learning experiences current and effective. In addition, Technical Training Developers located at Subaru of America (SOA) Headquarters (HQ) will also develop and deploy New Technology Training (NTT) programs to support successful new vehicle and system launches.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Designs, develops, implements, and maintains core and new technical training curricula. Leverages subject matter expert (SME) collaboration and on-site observations to ensure accuracy and relevance. Creates and manages project plans including scope, schedules, resources, objectives, and deliverables. Applies automotive technical expertise to validate that curriculum is current and provides data-driven recommendations to senior leadership on training lab equipment, build vs. buy decisions, and third-party content integration.
  • Collaborates across the Development Department to create and review training aids, including manuals, activities, presentations, videos, instructor guides, and course design documents.
  • Plans and conducts ongoing electronic and in-person communications with internal Subaru of America (SOA) departments, Subaru Corporation (SBR), external partners, suppliers, and vendors to gather technical information for course development. Identifies key stakeholders, determines training communication needs, and develops strategies to effectively deliver technical subject matter. Directs vendor work, ensuring accountability for deliverables, quality, and performance.
  • Travels to Area Training Centers (ATCs) to evaluate instructor-led training delivery. Observes instructor and student engagement, establishes assessment criteria to measure training effectiveness, and develops project plans to update or improve curriculum and materials as needed.
  • Plans, hosts, and manages Train the Trainer (T3) events for Field Service Training Managers (FSTMs) on new curriculum, training equipment, and simulators. Recommends participant selection, manages logistics and schedule, and defines instructional strategies to ensure effective knowledge transfer. Oversees rollout and implementation of new learning programs.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Coordinates with Multimedia Designers to produce and integrate multimedia assets and ensure consistent material layout.
  • Forecasts technical training needs by collaborating with Field Training Management, Product Planning, Product Management, Field Quality Assurance (FQA), and Subaru Academy and utilizing information provided by the Subaru Aftersales Information Service (SAIS).
  • Conducts regular quality reviews with the Sr. Technical Training Developer throughout the curriculum development lifecycle.
  • Independently develops training content at SOA ATCs, evaluates SME and FSTM recommendations; and updates course assessments and certification tests.
  • Supports the development of FSTMs to SME levels by modeling effective facilitation techniques and providing targeted skill development recommendations to Regional Technical Training Managers (RTTMs).

Required Skills & Personal Qualifications
  • Ability to apply instructional design principles to create effective and engaging instructor-led training (ILT), e-learning curriculum, and video training content.
  • Advanced knowledge of automotive systems, including engines; transmissions; fuel management; brakes; steering; suspension; heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC)/climate control; advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS); local area network (LAN)/controller area network (CAN) communication networks; and hybrid and electric vehicle (EV) systems.
  • Capability to work independently in shop and lab environments.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Effective and clear presentation, facilitation, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform effectively in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration, coordination, and scheduling skills with internal teams, external vendors, and global partners.
  • Hands-on experience with automotive components, vehicles, simulators, diagnostic tools, and oscilloscope techniques.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365 applications.

Education/Experience Requirements: Bachelor's Degree with 6-8 years of relevant experience required.
Work Environment:
  • Office Location: Camden, NJ; apart of the Greater Philadelphia Area (Philly)
  • Hybrid Role: Remote work 2 days per week (After 90 Days Onboarding)

Compensation: The Recruiting base salary range for this full-time position is $94,800 -$115,000 /year. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Additionally, this role is bonus-eligible, with a target bonus percentage that provides an opportunity to earn even more based on your performance. (Internal Job Grade: M1).
