What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior escalation engineer?

To thrive as a Senior Escalation Engineer, you need deep technical expertise in troubleshooting complex systems, advanced knowledge of relevant software or hardware, and a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with ticketing systems, diagnostic tools, and certifications such as Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) or similar are often required. Strong analytical thinking, effective communication, and patience under pressure are standout soft skills for this role. These skills are vital to efficiently resolve critical customer issues, maintain client satisfaction, and support continuous product improvement.

How does a senior escalation engineer typically collaborate with product and development teams to resolve complex customer issues?

Senior Escalation Engineers often act as a bridge between frontline support and product or development teams. When standard troubleshooting fails to resolve a customer's technical problem, they work closely with engineers and product managers to conduct deeper root cause analysis, share diagnostic data, and propose workarounds or permanent fixes. This collaboration may involve participating in technical meetings, contributing to post-incident reviews, and providing feedback to influence future product improvements. Effective communication and a solid understanding of both customer needs and internal technical processes are key to success in this role.

SENIOR CLOUD ENGINEER
Location: Raleigh, NC or Wilmington, NC (On-site/Hybrid), Remote ok with travel
Reports To: Director Managed Services
The Role
Celito is entering a transformative phase of growth, and we are seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to support and evolve cloud platforms for a diverse MSP client base. This role is responsible for architecting, deploying, and operating secure, scalable, multi-tenant cloud environments while serving as a technical escalation point for complex customer engagements.
The ideal candidate has strong hands-on engineering experience, thrives in customer-facing environments, and understands how to balance standardization, security, and cost efficiency across multiple clients and industries
Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and manage multi-tenant cloud environments across AWS, Azure, and/or GCP
  • Serve as senior escalation for complex cloud, infrastructure, and security issues
  • Lead client cloud migrations, modernization initiatives, and hybrid-cloud implementations
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) templates for repeatable MSP delivery
  • Standardize cloud architectures to improve scalability, security, and operational efficiency
  • Implement cloud security controls including IAM, network segmentation, logging, and compliance baselines
  • Integrate cloud platforms with MSP toolsets (RMM, PSA, monitoring, backup, DR)
  • Provide technical leadership on client projects, including design reviews and implementation guidance
  • Partner with Sales and Solutions Engineering on pre-sales architecture and client assessments
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal runbooks and best practices
  • Participate in customer incident response

The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a senior cloud engineer with the background and previous MSP experience that excels working in a fast paced environment.
Experience:
  • 6+ years of experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure, or DevOps roles
  • Experience working in an MSP or managed services environment supporting multiple clients
  • Deep hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, and/or GCP (multi-cloud preferred)
  • Strong proficiency with Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM/Bicep, or similar IaC tools
  • Solid understanding of networking (VPC/VNet design, firewalls, VPNs, Direct Connect/ExpressRoute)
  • Experience supporting Linux and Windows workloads in production
  • Scripting and automation skills (Python, PowerShell, Bash)
  • Experience implementing security frameworks and compliance controls (SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI, etc.)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in high-availability, customer-impacting environments
MSP-Specific Competencies:
  • Ability to balance standardization vs. customization across diverse client environments
  • Strong documentation and runbook development skills
  • Clear, professional communication with customers and internal stakeholders
  • Operational mindset focused on SLA adherence, security, and cost optimization
  • Comfort operating in fast-paced, ticket-driven and project-based workflows
Why This Role?
Celito offers a competitive salary with full benefits including a long-term, stable permanent role within a growing MSP. Exposure to a wide variety of customer environments and technologies. A clear technical growth path into Principal Engineer or Cloud Architect roles. Role available in either Raleigh or Wilmington, NC
