General Description of the Job Class

The Senior Director of Operations will provide strategic and operational leadership for a variety of departments at Duke Regional Hospital. Through leading direct and indirect relationships, this leader will be responsible for enhancing daily operations, closing identified gaps, collaborating to improve throughput, and executing on large scale projects and assignments.

This role may be responsible for direct leadership and oversight of areas/functions such as (but not limited to): Environmental Services, Food/Nutrition Services, Engineering, Allied Health, project management, etc. The role may also serve as the onsite liaison and/or provide dotted line leadership to areas such as (but not limited to): Radiology, Pharmacy, Clinical Labs, Real Estate, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

- Oversee (directly and indirectly) and provide entity-focused strategic direction, administration, coordination, performance and monitoring of operational and business activities of multiple operational departments, working collaboratively with senior administrative and physician management.

- Serve as onsite executive contact for groups/functions providing services to designated entity.

- Lead, coordinate and execute entity-wide projects that align with local and system strategic plans.

- Ensure the development, implementation and compliance with applicable DUHS policies and procedures.

- Serve as liaison to entity administration, physicians, internal and external stakeholders to coordinate entity business, accomplish directives and facilitate the resolution of problems.

- Responsible for the overall success and performance of operational department budgets by monitoring, enabling and empowering department leaders to monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds.

- Ensure consistent and accurate interpretation and application of human resource policies and procedures. Interpret and administer policies pertaining to the recruitment and retention of employees. Manage various personnel issues.

- May recommend potential enhancements, improvements or waste reductions to operational procedures and activities. Recommend appropriate actions or solutions consistent with overall goals.
