About Ephemera
Ephemera is a modern, ingredient-driven restaurant located inside COATI Uprise in downtown Colorado Springs. The restaurant focuses on seasonal menus, thoughtful technique, and a high standard of execution. Ephemera operates as both a dinner restaurant and a creative culinary platform with tasting menus, special events, collaborations, and curated dining experiences.
We are seeking a skilled Sous Chef to work alongside the Executive Chef and culinary team in executing daily service, preparing high-level menu items, and maintaining the standards and organization of the kitchen.
Position Summary
The Sous Chef is a senior hourly culinary position responsible for food preparation, station execution, organization, cleanliness, and maintaining Ephemera's standards of quality and consistency. This is a hands-on role working directly in service and prep production while helping maintain the flow and organization of the kitchen.
This position focuses on execution, technique, organization, and consistency.
Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation & Service Execution
  • Prepare and execute menu items to Ephemera standards
  • Maintain consistency in recipes, portioning, and plating
  • Assist with daily prep production and station setup
  • Work service on the line and assist with expediting dishes during service
  • Ensure proper food handling, storage, labeling, and rotation (FIFO)
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and service-ready workstation at all times

Kitchen Organization & Standards
  • Assist in maintaining prep lists, recipes, and station organization
  • Help maintain kitchen cleanliness, equipment care, and sanitation standards
  • Support inventory organization and product rotation
  • Assist with menu development prep, tastings, and special events
  • Help reduce waste and maintain efficient product usage

Team Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with the culinary team to ensure smooth service
  • Assist in maintaining a professional, respectful, and focused kitchen environment
  • Communicate clearly with kitchen and front-of-house staff during service
  • Help maintain a culture of pride, professionalism, and hospitality

Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in a high-quality kitchen
  • Fine dining or scratch kitchen experience preferred
