Title: Senior Data Center Infrastructure Specialist
The Senior Data Center Infrastructure Specialist isresponsible for the physical installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the hardware and cabling that powers large-scale computing environments.
Core Responsibilities
Act as the primarySubject Matter Expert (SME)for on-site infrastructure,
providing technical guidance andon-the-job training (OJT)to junior technicians.
Lead large-scale infrastructure deployments, technical refreshes, andhigh-risk
network migrations.
Manage capacity planning for power, cooling, and rack space; advise leadership
onmodernization and scalability.
Coordinate with external vendors for equipment upgrades and serve as the on-
site liaison for remote engineering teams.
Physically installing servers, routers, and switches into racks and cabinets.
Routing, labeling, and terminating copper (Cat5e/Cat6) and fiber optic cabling to
maintain a clean and organized infrastructure.
Diagnosing and replacing faulty components like hard drives, memory (DIMMs),
and power supplies.
UtilizeData Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM)tools to monitor power
usage, temperature, humidity, and airflow to prevent overheating.
Safely removing and disposing of outdated or end-of-life hardware and clearing
corresponding cabling.
Performing physical tasks (like power cycles or visual inspections) on behalf of
remote engineering teams who cannot access the site
Key Requirements & Skills
Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and spend 8+ hours
a day standing or walking in a noisy environment.
Familiarity with computer hardware, network protocols (TCP/IP), and Operating
Systems (Linux/Windows).
Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot connectivity or hardware failures under
pressure.
Education & Certifications:
Top Secret or higher security clearance
8+ years of experience in mission critical data center environments
Experience in managing small teams
High School Diploma; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in IT or Computer
Science is preferred for higher-tier roles.
Industry-recognized credentials likeCompTIA Server+,CompTIA Network+,
orCisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), etc.
