About Switch

At Switch, we don’t just design, build and operate data centers—we are enabling the technology of the future. Led by Founder & CEO, Rob Roy, we believe in revolutionary innovation, operational excellence and the principle of karma. Switch is where talented people come together to EVOLVE the digital world.

We believe that innovation isn’t just about technology—it’s about the people, culture, and purpose that make it happen. Every Switch team member contributes to a mission greater than themselves: to create the world’s most advanced digital infrastructure that powers the progress of humanity.

The Role: Senior Data Center Mechanical Engineer

As a Senior Data Center Mechanical Engineer at Switch, you will be part of a world-class team that operates in excellence, delivering mission-critical solutions that redefine what’s possible in AI, cloud and enterprise data center needs. Your work will directly impact the future of technology and the sustainable growth of the Internet.

In this role you will support and optimize the operations of the critical infrastructure supporting IT loads in Switch Data Centers, including power, water, and cooling systems. You are also involved in developing solutions for continuous improvement in system performance and utilization, managing utility resourcing, capacity management, change management, efficiency, root cause analysis, design feedback, condition-based maintenance, end-of-life management, and various other data center lifecycle programs. Additionally, you are an on-site equipment and system expert, directly supporting continuous improvement, optimization, operations, and capital projects, and may also coordinate efforts globally.

What You’ll Do
  • Troubleshoot, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and create Corrective Actions (CA) documentation for equipment failures, including electrical critical systems.

  • Directly support operational teams as the subject matter expert for issue resolution, event response, and complex procedural review, including ad-hoc training and critical equipment support.

  • Perform availability, capacity, efficiency, and sustainability analyses for the electrical critical systems in the Switch data centers in your region. Produce reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations and remediation solutions.

  • Monitor and interpret data center performance trends for continuous improvement and capital projects.

  • Develop innovative solutions for Switch data centers, then function as the owner of conceptual designs for existing data center upgrades that improve capacity, availability, efficiency, and sustainability.

  • Provide performance feedback of innovative Switch infrastructure solutions to Design Engineering.

  • Function as resident engineer for construction and retrofit projects for critical environments.

  • Interface with internal data center operations team, data center design engineering team, field engineering team, and environmental health and safety team to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in delivered services.

  • Build trust and relationships with different stakeholders (e.g., Operations, Commissioning, Construction, and Engineering).

  • Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.

What We’re Looking For
  • Innovators & Builders – You see challenges as opportunities and thrive in uncharted territories.

  • High-Performance Thinkers – You have a relentless drive for excellence and a passion for pushing the envelope. You thrive in high impact environments where execution is key.

  • Integrity-Driven Leaders – You operate with honor, responsibility, and purpose, recognizing that the energy you put out into the world will return to you.

  • Tech Pioneers – You understand the power of technology to change the world and want to be at the forefront of that transformation.

What You'll Bring
  • A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or higher with a certification as a Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.

  • An understanding of electrical and mechanical systems that may be employed in a data center environment. This may include electrical feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, power systems, ATS/STS units, PDU units, air handling units, cooling towers, pumps, and fire suppression systems.

  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, schematics, Sequence of Operations, submittals, and MEP drawings packages.

  • Strong Outlook, Publisher, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills.

  • An understanding of data analysis methodologies, statistical techniques, and business acumen.

  • Excel in analyzing datasets and providing strategic guidance to leadership.

  • Ability to analyze and implement solutions for problem resolution.

  • Easily able to work well under pressure while also being flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient.

  • Leadership skills that promote team development and support the Switch Culture.

  • A strategic mindset with the ability to balance long-term vision with operational execution.

Why Switch?
  • A Culture of Karma – We are self-motivated by karma, ensuring our actions contribute to a positive, supportive and forward-thinking environment.

  • Industry Leading Designs – Work with the most advanced data center technology on the planet and be a part of emerging technology development.
