Position Description:ย 

The Senior Credit Officer I is responsible for underwriting, analyzing, servicing, and monitoring assigned participation, direct lending, official loan, and excess loan relationships. This role performs in-depth financial analysis, due diligence, credit administration, portfolio monitoring, and transaction support for commercial, agricultural, and related lending opportunities, while helping ensure sound credit discipline, responsive service, and compliance with Bank credit standards and portfolio risk expectations.

The position partners with Directors, Capital Markets Credit Analysis leadership, associations, and other financial institutions to evaluate complex credits, support loan participations and correspondent lending relationships, and contribute to portfolio reporting, industry analysis, and special projects. The role requires sound credit judgment, strong analytical capability, and the ability to manage complex transactions and portfolio relationships with an appropriate level of independence.

Day-to Day-Duties and Responsibilities:ย 

  • Perform financial analysis, underwriting, credit administration, monitoring, and due diligence for assigned official loans, excess loans, loan participation packages, direct loan relationships, and other commercial or agricultural credit opportunities.
  • Analyze borrower financial statements, cash flow, collateral, repayment capacity, industry conditions, risk trends, and transaction structures to assess creditworthiness and portfolio risk.
  • Support structuring, evaluation, and negotiation of complex credits, including large loans, participations, correspondent lending relationships, and other specialized transactions.
  • Monitor assigned participation and portfolio relationships to identify emerging risks, performance trends, covenant concerns, servicing needs, and other matters requiring attention or escalation.
  • Assist Directors and Credit leadership in the analysis, servicing, reporting, and ongoing management of the Bank's loan participations and related portfolio activity.
  • Interpret, communicate, and provide guidance to associations regarding sound lending practices, credit policies, financial analysis, and portfolio considerations.
  • Review and help resolve legal, title, collateral, documentation, and other credit-related questions that arise during underwriting, servicing, or transaction execution.
  • Support development, administration, and enhancement of lending programs, operating procedures, and practices related to lending operations and portfolio management.
  • Assist in development and closing of complex loans by supporting analysis, structuring, negotiation, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support development and maintenance of loan participation and correspondent banking relationships with other lenders and financial institutions.
  • Manage assigned participation loan relationships and provide timely follow-up on servicing, monitoring, reporting, and issue resolution.
  • Develop industry analysis, peer group analysis, portfolio analysis, and related credit materials to support decision-making, portfolio oversight, and special projects.
  • Prepare clear, well-supported credit analysis, underwriting documents, portfolio summaries, and recommendations for leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Assist other Bank personnel in completing coordinated projects, portfolio reviews, and credit-related initiatives as assigned.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in agricultural economics, finance, business administration, or other related business field, or equivalent experience.
  • Five (5) to ten (10) years of experience in lending, credit analysis, credit administration, commercial credits, agricultural production lending, or related financial services work.
  • Experience analyzing complex credits and working with large loans over $5 million.
  • Experienceย with official loans, excess loans, loan participations, direct loans, correspondent lending relationships, or comparable complex credit structures.
  • Strong knowledge ofย credit administration, financial analysis, loan analysis software, accounting standards, credit policies, and lending procedures.
  • Strong understanding of financial statement analysis, forecasting models, cash flow budgets, collateral analysis, appraisal standards, and payment performance related to agricultural production loans, mortgage loans, and commercial credits.
  • Ability to identify, measure, monitor, and manage risk in loans, loan portfolios, and direct lending relationships.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to travel up to 25 percent.

Preferred

  • Experience in Farm Credit, agricultural finance, commercial banking, or another regulated financial services environment.
  • Experience supporting complex participation, correspondent banking, capital markets, or direct lending relationships.
  • Experience preparing industry, peer group, or portfolio analysis for senior leadership or credit committees.
  • Experience assisting with development of lending programs, portfolio management procedures, or credit process improvements.
  • Experience working directly with associations, senior loan officers, or other external financial institution partners on credit structuring and evaluation.
