Job description

A3 Technology, Inc. is seeking a highly experienced Network Infrastructure Engineer to support the FAA Alaska Automation Capability (AAC) program, a critical FAA initiative modernizing flight service infrastructure across 17 Alaska Flight Service Stations (FSS). This role serves as the technical authority for network architecture, telecommunications integration, and system digitization - ensuring the delivery of a resilient, scalable, and interoperable communications and automation platform in one of the most operationally demanding environments in the National Airspace System (NAS).

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in VoIP, legacy radio integration, voice switching systems, and enterprise network architecture, combined with a strong background in FAA or aviation-sector systems integration.

This position is 100% on-site, located in Anchorage, Alaska. Travel to remote locations may be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the installation and configuration of network infrastructures and validate digitization suite interoperability with the modular AAC architecture prior to field deployment.
  • Serve as SME for end-to-end installation and configuration of hardware/software digitization solutions across Alaska FSSs
  • Integrate legacy telecommunications with modern VoIP radio platforms to ensure resilient, scalable CPC workspace operations.
  • Provide technical input to the HFE program and support up to four (4) Early User Involvement Events (EUIEs), ensuring digital interface designs do not negatively impact controller situational awareness or workload.
  • Lead and document all network-related test activities; deliver Installation and Checkout Reports (INCOs), network architecture diagrams, and system configuration documentation in accordance with FAA standards.
  • Partner with stakeholders to define and execute site-specific deployment strategies; provide on-site and remote technical leadership throughout installation and national rollout phases.
  • Monitor system performance across FSS sites; manage feedback loops with FAA controllers to identify gaps and drive continuous improvement throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Contribute to a multi-year Capabilities and Technology Roadmap aligned with NAS Enterprise Architecture; AI-enabled tool functionality and output verification processes in compliance with FAA governance requirements.

Skills Required:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in network infrastructure engineering, with at least 5 years in a systems integration or SME capacity on large-scale government or aviation programs.
  • Voice over IP (VoIP) architecture, configuration, and troubleshooting; Legacy and modern voice switching and call distribution systems; Telecommunications network design and resilient architecture; Integration of legacy radio systems with modern digital platforms; LAN/WAN infrastructure, routing, switching, and network security.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting FAA, DoD, or other federal aviation/ATC systems integration programs.
  • Proficiency in producing network architecture diagrams, configuration documentation, and formal test/acceptance reports.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required FAA public trust security clearance/suitability determination.

Skills Preferred:

  • Experience with FAA Flight Service Station (FSS) systems, NAS Enterprise Architecture, or Integrated Automation Capability (IAC) programs.
  • Familiarity with Human Factors Engineering (HFE) principles as applied to controller workstation environments.
  • Knowledge of cloud-native network architectures and AI/ML integration in operational systems.
  • Industry certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent.
  • Experience operating in remote or austere environments, particularly in Alaska or similar geographically challenging regions.
  • Prior experience with FAA Certified Professional Controller (CPC) workspace systems or equivalent ATC automation platforms.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in network engineering, telecommunications, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related technical field and 12 years relevant experience, Master's degree and 10 years relevant experience or PhD and 7 years relevant experience.
