As part of the Microsoft Communications team, you will join a group of professionals focused on telling the stories that help people fall in love with Microsoft, the things we make, and the impact we have in the world. We are looking for a strategic, collaborative Senior Communications Manager to join the Innovation & Strategy Communications team, focused on scientific research and emerging technologies. This role sits at the intersection of advanced research, product innovation, and external influence - helping shape the narrative around Microsoft's leadership in foundational science and breakthrough computing paradigms. Reporting to the head of Communications for Research & Scientific Discovery, this person will partner closely with researchers, product marketing to identify and develop compelling stories that translate highly technical research into clear, credible, and engaging stories for external audiences
Responsibilities
  • Partner with researchers and product marketing teams to translate complex research and technical concepts for a variety of external audiences.
  • Develop strategic plans and identify proactive storytelling opportunities grounded in scientific research and emerging tech advancements.
  • Review media requests and advise researchers and senior executives on interviews and speaking engagements.
  • Help develop and review owned content (e.g., blogs, op-eds, social content) in partnership with communications stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain relationships across a broad influencer landscape, including media, independent bloggers, creators, analysts, and academic thought leaders.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving communications trends and identify new opportunities to engage technical and scientific audiences.
  • Manage external agency partners to execute influencer interviews, events, and campaigns.
  • Have an understanding of the global influencer landscape and evolving communications trends.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a range of influencers, including media, creators and analysts.
  • Demonstrated interest in scientific research and emerging technologies.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with AI-enabled tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or related field AND 4+ years communications, marketing operations, field operations, program management, project management, or related experience OR equivalent experience

Communications IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $106,400.00 - $203,600.00 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $137,600.00 - $222,600.00 per year.
