Overview
Black Canyon Consulting (BCC) is actively looking for a part-time Subject Matter Expert - RxNav to support the the National Library of Medicine (NLM).
The Lister Hill National Center for Biomedical Communications (LHNCBC)'s Applied Clinical Informatics Branch (ACIB) at the National Library of Medicine (NLM) identifies and develops innovative solutions for complex biomedical informatics challenges related to the use of diverse forms of clinical data, such as electronic health records, imaging, and sensor data, that scale across institutional boundaries and applications. Its members translate new research results into operational solutions that can be implemented in healthcare and research environments, and they explore and improve upon emerging solutions in the use of clinical data, including standards for terminology and data communications. The ACIB collaborates with other entities within NIH and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) agencies to develop data science solutions to address issues of mutual interest and participates in interdisciplinary, cross-divisional collaborations and projects where appropriate.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The RxNav SME will be responsible for supporting the work of the RxNav suite, providing expert knowledge in the following tasks:
  • Document RxNav and RxClass use cases, improving user guidance and supporting ongoing maintenance.
  • Assist in prioritizing and support management in the development of the RxNav suite (i.e., RxNav, RxClass, RxMix, and RxAPIs).
  • Provide guidance on mapping and alignment goals (e.g., ATCPROD, SNOMED), use cases, priorities, and documentation.
  • Review the RxNorm-in-OWL pilot, contribute to discussions, and refine documentation.
  • Offer expertise and ad-hoc support across all aspects of the RxNav project as needed.
  • Participate in a weekly RxNav touch-point meeting to review progress, address challenges, and align priorities
Qualifications:
  • Advanced technical or scientific degree in research subject matter, Ph.D. or MD. desirable
  • Outstanding publications
  • Technical writing skills (e.g., drafting and writing papers, documentation, administrative materials, copy-editing of transcripts, etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience in biomedical informatics, image processing, and natural language processing (e.g. extracting information from biomedical literature and databases or contributing linguistic or medical knowledge to system development)
  • Extensive experience in biostatistics, with working knowledge of R, S, SAS or SPSS
  • Experience in content development and/or text annotation (e.g., annotation of certain types of biomedical entities including personally identifiable information; development of biomedical lexicons; or development of mission-related content)
  • Experience in specialized and custom training of emerging technologies
  • Experience in content management systems (e.g. Drupal)
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
