Job Summary

The Asset Protection Manager oversees the day-to-day physical security operations of all cannabis retail and manufacturing facilities in the state while collaborating closely with leadership from People Operations, Retail, Facilities, and Manufacturing, as well as with security vendors. This role is critical for ensuring the safety and compliance of both retail and production environments, with a strong focus on minimizing risk and optimizing security protocols across an assigned territory.

Duties and Responsibilities

Physical Security Operations

Oversee day-to-day physical security operations across assigned retail and manufacturing facilities.

Secure premises and personnel by visually inspecting facilities and curtilage, and monitoring surveillance equipment, access points, and contracted security guards.

Maintain a regulatory compliant environment by setting and monitoring security expectations, including controlling visitor access.

Monitor security and compliance related to the transportation of cannabis and wholesale deliveries.

Partner with internal business units to develop safety plans consistent with regulatory and compliance requirements.

Ensure security staff maintain confidentiality of proprietary, customer, and internal information at all times.

Assessments & Audits

Travel between locations to conduct on-site assessments of security operations and compliance.

Conduct a minimum of quarterly audits at each assigned location.

Regularly audit all security equipment, including access control, CCTV, and alarm systems, to ensure proper functionality.

Systems & Vendor Management

Manage relationships with security vendors, including alarm and surveillance companies, ensuring service meets operational needs.

Oversee CCTV and access control systems across assigned facilities.

Provide technical troubleshooting support for security systems as needed.

Incident Management

Receive off-hour calls and respond to facilities for security-related emergencies as needed.

Investigate incidents of theft, loss, and other security breaches; document findings and work with law enforcement when necessary.

Serve as the liaison with law enforcement on security-related matters.

Escalate and communicate all incidents to appropriate leadership in a timely manner.

Training & Education

Train retail and manufacturing staff on security procedures, compliance, and loss prevention protocols.

Ensure newly hired managers receive proper security training.

Partner with the Talent & Learning Development team to develop and maintain training content for security procedures, compliance, and loss prevention protocols.

Reporting & Data Analysis

Complete reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities.

Provide regular reports on security incidents, loss metrics, and compliance status to senior management.

Recommend improvements to security protocols based on data and trends.

Communicate all actionable items in a timely manner to ensure effective results.

Customer Focus & Communication

Approach all interactions with a proactive, forward-thinking mindset, identifying and addressing issues before they escalate.

Remember that Asset Protection is a support function; maintain a customer-focused approach with internal teams.

Maintain timely response times and clear, professional communication with stakeholders.

Determine appropriate communication channels and timing based on the nature of each issue.

Qualifications

Ability and willingness to travel frequently within the assigned territory.

Strong knowledge of loss prevention techniques, security technology, and compliance requirements.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience in training and guiding teams on security protocols.

Proficiency in security systems, reporting software, and data analysis.

Must meet age requirement as outlined by state cannabis agencies.

Able to pass all background checks/fingerprinting as required by state cannabis agencies.

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.

Must stay current and adhere to all policies and regulations of the state cannabis agencies.

Strong attention to detail and situational awareness.

Education

Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, security management, or related field is preferred.

Equivalent combination of work/education experience accepted.

Experience

7+ years in asset protection, security management, or related field, preferably within a high-security or regulated industry (cannabis experience a plus).

5+ years of physical security management experience in corporate, retail and manufacturing environments.

7+ years of integrated electronic security equipment such as alarm systems with a strong concentration on card access and CCTV systems.

Working Conditions

The person in this position may be exposed to dust, kief, cleaning chemicals and fumes. Although systems are in place to remove these byproducts, there is still exposure to some degree.

Must be able to work flexible days/times. Working alternative shifts, weekend days and past business hours are required sometimes with little notice.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to constantly remain in a stationary position when required.

The person in this position needs to frequently move about the inside and outside of facilities.

Constantly operates a CCTV system, computer and other equipment such as a cell phone and GPS.

The person in this position frequently communicates with staff, visitors and vendors regarding security procedures. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

Frequently lifts, loads, unloads, moves, positions and transports items up to 50 pounds.
