ABOUT THE ROLE
A-CAP has an immediate opening for a self-motivated, resourceful, and well-organized candidate to join the team as a Senior Actuary with an initial focus on product development and pricing, capital planning and forecasting, reinsurance and profitability analyses of fixed annuities and life insurance. This opening will have direct exposure to each of the group’s insurance operating companies as well as close interaction with the company’s management team. The individual will have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of the company’s actuarial functions and will work closely with leadership from the finance and insurance teams. This role offers scope for tremendous growth as A-CAP continues to grow and expand its business. This is a rare opportunity for an actuary to contribute to both new business and in-force functions within a high-growth insurance organization.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  • Manage product pricing for both new & in-force products and new product development projects primarily for fixed annuities and the company’s pre-need and final expense life insurance products.
  • Analyzing new and existing reinsurance arrangements including pricing, relationship management, and administration
  • Price, maintain, and advise on modeling techniques (using GGY AXIS) and pricing profitability metrics to drive product and capital decision-making.  Setting pricing assumptions and analyzing capital usage of new products.
  • Capital planning, forecasting and modeling including RBC and other capital models
  • Earnings and profitability analyses
  • Board reporting and other reporting and monitoring of key metrics
  • Support subsidiary insurance companies’ core actuarial functions as needed (valuation, cash flow testing, pro-forma/business planning, risk management, etc.) with opportunities to rotate through various actuarial functions on a short-term basis.
  • Other Actuarial projects as needed.
  • Opportunity to work on high-profile projects with senior decision-makers that directly drive company growth; the role will have direct exposure to Senior Management including the Head of Life and Annuities, Head of Distribution, the Chief Actuary and the Chief Financial Officer. Work closely with investments, marketing/sales, accounting, and IT/systems administration teams as well as other key stakeholders.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, actuarial science, or related field with 5+ years of actuarial experience.
  • ASA/FSA designation.
  • Expert proficiency with MS Office Suite and GGY AXIS (or similar software). Tech-savvy is a plus.
  • Experience with annuity products and/or life products relevant actuarial work (pricing, capital forecasting, profitability analyses, etc.).
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to communicate complex concepts in a professional and concise manner, both verbally and written.
  • Comfort with a steep learning curve and motivation to work in an opportunity-rich, dynamic environment.
  • Experience with reinsurance and capital models, particularly for fixed annuity products, preferred.
  • Experience with pre-need and/or final expense life insurance products, preferred.
  • US Statutory and/or GAAP financial reporting experience, preferred.

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. For individuals hired to work in New York State, A-CAP is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range is specific to the locations listed above and considers the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions, such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $110,000.00 - $230,000.00 USD annually.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., 40 hours weekly, or as otherwise arranged with the manager of the department.
