Position Summary

Thompson Holdings is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our growing finance team in Mobile, AL. This role is responsible for supporting the organization's financial operations through accurate reporting, account analysis, and process improvement initiatives. The Senior Accountant will work closely with finance leadership and operational teams to ensure the integrity of financial data, maintain compliance with accounting standards, and provide insights that support strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate is analytical, proactive, and possesses strong technical accounting expertise.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Maintain and analyze general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests, providing supporting documentation and analysis as needed.
  • Utilize BST Global and other financial systems to manage accounting processes and improve reporting efficiency.
  • Support cash management activities, fixed asset accounting, and intercompany transactions.
  • Develop and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls.
  • Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and complex financial issues.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior accounting staff when applicable.
  • Assist with special projects and ad hoc financial analyses as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience required.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and general ledger accounting.
  • Experience with month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience with BST Global software preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, lookup functions, and financial analysis tools.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certification preferred.
  • Experience in engineering, consulting, construction, or professional services industries preferred.
  • Experience supporting multi-entity organizations or holding company structures.
