Role Overview:
MACOM is seeking a Photo Process Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers and technicians responsible for sustaining, optimizing, and advancing semiconductor manufacturing processes in the photolithography area within our Lowell, MA wafer fabrication facility. This role requires an experienced people leader with strong technical foundation in semiconductor manufacturing and demonstrated success driving operational excellence in a high-volume production environment.
The successful candidate will combine deep process engineering expertise with strong cross-functional leadership, enabling rapid resolution of manufacturing challenges, continuous yield improvement, and execution of strategic process initiatives. Exceptional communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders across all levels of the organization-including customers, suppliers, and executive leadership-are critical for success.
This is an on-site position based in MACOM's wafer fabrication facility in Lowell, Massachusetts.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of photo process engineers and technicians through coaching, performance management, technical guidance, and career development.
• Own photolithography processes, including steppers, contact aligners, tracks, overlay, and inspection processes.
• Develop and execute capital equipment strategies, including CapEx planning, business case development, tool upgrades, and equipment qualifications to support manufacturing and technology objectives.
• Drive rapid problem-solving and structured root cause analysis (RCA) to resolve yield excursions, process deviations, and manufacturing challenges.
• Establish and maintain robust statistical process control (SPC) systems, control plans, process monitoring strategies, and response procedures to ensure stable and capable manufacturing processes.
• Partner closely with Operations, Integration, Equipment, Quality, and Product teams to achieve production, yield, quality, and cycle-time objectives.
• Utilize data-driven methodologies to identify process improvement opportunities and drive continuous improvement initiatives across multiple process modules.
• Monitor key process and yield metrics, proactively identify risks, and implement corrective and preventive actions to ensure manufacturing performance targets are met.
• Ensure process documentation, specifications, work instructions, and engineering change records are accurate, current, and compliant with quality requirements.
• Communicate technical assessments, project status, risks, and recovery plans clearly and proactively to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Support new product introductions, process transfers, and technology development activities as required.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related engineering field.
• 10+ years of semiconductor process engineering experience within a wafer fabrication environment.
• 3+ years of direct people management experience leading engineering teams in semiconductor manufacturing.
• Strong experience with photolithography processes, with demonstrated technical breadth across multiple process modules.
• Proven track record of solving complex manufacturing and yield issues using statistical analysis, structured problem-solving methodologies, and engineering fundamentals.
• Hands-on experience with SPC, Design of Experiments (DOE), process capability analysis (Cpk), and yield improvement methodologies.
• Experience interpreting process, metrology, test, and equipment data to identify and resolve process, yield, and reliability issues.
• Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Fault Detection and Classification (FDC), and semiconductor manufacturing databases.
• Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and project management skills.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple competing objectives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Experience supporting compound semiconductor, RF, and photonics.
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
• Experience presenting technical and operational updates to senior leadership.

Salary Range
The Salary Range for this position is $112,000 - $179,000. Actual salary offered to candidate will depend on several factors, including but not limited to, work location, relevant candidates' experience, education, and specific knowledge, skills, and abilities.
