Job description

IT Security Systems Engineer

Do you want your cybersecurity work to protect critical public services and help shape the future of AI in government? Miami-Dade Countyโ€™s Enterprise Security Office is looking for an IT Security Systems Engineer to help strengthen enterprise security, support modern security tools, and advance automation and AI-enabled defense.

In this role, you will:

โ€ข Support AI and automation initiatives tied to security operations

โ€ข Work with teams across the enterprise to reduce risk

โ€ข Improve and support enterprise security systems

โ€ข Help deploy modern cybersecurity technologies

โ€ข Review access to systems and applications

We are looking for someone with experience in enterprise security systems, strong technical judgment, and interest in emerging cybersecurity and AI capabilities. This is a chance to do meaningful work at scale, protect essential services, and contribute to the security of one of the largest county governments in the country.

Responsibilities:

โ€ข Advise internal customers on cybersecurity best practices and practical security improvements.

โ€ข Help design, maintain, and improve enterprise security architecture and controls across networks, applications, cloud services, data protection, identity, and cryptography.

โ€ข Evaluate and support security automation and AI-enabled capabilities.

โ€ข Support security engineering efforts aligned with NIST, CIS, CJIS, and PCI DSS.

โ€ข Develop and improve processes for delivering security solutions across the enterprise.

โ€ข Support risk-based cybersecurity policies, standards, and objectives.

โ€ข Participate in after-hours or weekend work when required.

Preferred knowledge and experience:

โ€ข Experience translating business and technical requirements into security controls.

โ€ข Knowledge of security engineering, application security, and secure system design.

โ€ข Experience with vulnerability management, SIEM, threat detection, incident support, or threat hunting.

โ€ข Experience with cloud security, identity and access management, and data protection.

โ€ข Experience with scripting or automation using Python, JavaScript, C#, or similar languages.

โ€ข Knowledge of Windows, Linux, firewalls, VPNs, and core network security principles.

โ€ข Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments independently.

Preferred Certifications

  • CISSP; CCSK, CCSP, CEH, CySA+, GIAC, GSEC (or other ISACA or SANS advanced certifications)
  • AWS or Azure; CCNA;
  • RedHat certified security specialist
  • Fortinet Specialist, Palo Alto Specialist, or Checkpoint Engineer level certifications.
