CAPITOL SECURITY OFFICER

SALARY: Depends on Qualifications

JOB TYPE: Unclassified

DEPARTMENT: LBCC-- Louisiana Capitol Security

LOCATION: Baton Rouge, LA

FUNCTION OF WORK: Performs the basic law enforcement functions in support of the mission of the Louisiana Legislature and Louisiana Capitol Security.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Close supervision from the Special Ops Supervisor.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. At least 21 years old at time of application.

  2. Possess a valid Louisiana Driver's License at the time of appointment.

  3. Have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalency.

  4. Have completed a Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) course.

  5. Have a current Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification and at least one year of experience as a P.O.S.T. certified law enforcement officer in a full-time position.

  6. Must pass a physical examination and physical fitness test. To be eligible for employment, applicants must successfully pass a Physical Condition Assessment. This assessment includes three components: push-ups, sit-ups, and a 1.5-mile run for time. Applicants are evaluated according to Cooper's Standards for Law Enforcement Personnel, which are attached.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

  1. Responsible for ensuring the safety of the Capitol Complex by enforcing relevant laws, House Rules, Senate Rules, Joint Rules, etc.

  2. Involves: Crime prevention, incident response, collaboration, and routine patrols and monitoring.

  3. Report all incidences, accidents, occurrences or threats.

  4. Carry out all other duties assigned by the Special Ops Supervisor, Deputy Director, Director of Capitol Security, the Speaker of the House, or the Senate President.
