Job Location: Wilmington, Newark, Middletown, DE

Hours/Week: 40

I. GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting the physician and physicianโ€˜s assistant with the care of the patient. The MA obtains and enters complete medical history into the electronic medical system while rooming patients. The MA also is responsible for all matters involving the clinical care of a patient both during patient hours and on non- clinical days.

II. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

A. Greets and assists patients, visitors, physicians and other staff members in a polite, prompt, helpful manner.

B. Maintain confidentiality and follow all HIPAA and departmental guidelines.

C. Provide any necessary instructions/directions.

D. Must remain flexible in work schedule (overtime, evenings, etc.).

E. Drawing up injections as directed by supervising physician.

F. Entering and reviewing information into the electronic medical record.

G. Accessing all test information and loading into electronic medical record.

H. Splinting and casting patients as necessary.

I. Stocking rooms and cleaning instruments following patient hours.

J. Handling clinical matters in a timely manner (same day) including but not limited to: post op questions, work notes, disability paperwork, prescriptions, and general questions.

K. All other items the physician deems necessary that fall within reasonable expectations.

III. JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Proficiency in Microsoft suite products such as Word, Outlook and Excel.

General knowledge and experience with office equipment such as copiers, multi-line phone systems, and fax machines.

Typing skills and working knowledge of word processing, electronic mail/calendar

Familiarity with medical terminology

Familiarity with the use of the electronic medical record

Detail-oriented and able to work independently or as a team

Check and respond promptly to e-mails and voice mail messages.

B. EDUCATION:

Degree in Medical Assisting preferred

C. EXPERIENCE:

Experience in a Medical Office setting is a plus.
