Job description

Amazon's Global Engineering Services team drives the execution and continuous improvement of critical automation, robotic, and software processes serving Amazon Fulfillment Network sites worldwide. We build automated solutions that leverage technology's strengths while empowering people to handle what humans do best.
Our environment is global and complex, encompassing diverse software systems, industrial machines, and protocols. We continuously innovate in automating and accelerating product delivery, building custom hardware and applying machine learning, image processing, and real-time data processing using distributed systems. We seek a Software Development Engineer capable of delivering results in this dynamic environment who will work closely with internal cross-functional teams and external partners to drive key aspects of product definition, execution, and testing. You must be responsive, flexible, and able to succeed within an open collaborative environment.
As a member of this team, you will develop solutions where cloud technology meets the physical world in the heart of our fulfillment centers. The ideal candidate will enjoy working at multiple layers of the stack and thrive in an innovative environment without being hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. This role requires up to 20% travel on a yearly basis. When not traveling, you must have availability to work from a corporate office. Candidates should either live near or be willing to relocate within a reasonable commuting distance of one of the corporate office locations listed. Relocation assistance may be provided.
Key job responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy scalable software solutions that integrate cloud services with physical automation systems in Amazon fulfillment centers
- Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code using AWS CDK to support robotic and automation systems across global fulfillment network sites
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware engineers, operations, and external partners to define product requirements and drive execution from concept to deployment
- Develop and optimize software across multiple layers of the technology stack, from low-level device communication protocols to high-level cloud services
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and diagnostic tools to ensure high availability and performance of critical automation systems
- Write clean, maintainable code in Python, C++, Go, or other high-level languages following software engineering best practices
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in production environments, working with Linux-based systems and distributed architectures
- Design and implement AI-backed tools and solutions that enhance automation efficiency and decision-making in fulfillment center operations
- Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing
- Evaluate and prototype emerging AI technologies and techniques to solve complex operational challenges in the fulfillment network

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related discipline or equivalent
- 2+ years of software development experience
- 2+ years of Linux operating systems experience
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with Python, C++, Go, or other high-level languages
- 2+ years developing infrastructure-as-code with AWS using CDK
- Familiarity with AI/ML model development lifecycle including training, evaluation, and deployment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 4+ years of software development experience
- 4+ years of programming in Python, Ruby, Go, Swift, Java, .Net, C++ or similar object oriented language experience
- Experience in one or more relevant front-end frameworks such as React, Angular, etc.
- Knowledge or experience working with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
- 4+ years of professional experience building and deploying AI/ML solutions in production environments

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
