Position Summary

The position of Medical Writer is responsible for writing high impact primary research manuscripts, technical method validations and patient case reports for publication in medical and scientific journals. The subject matter will consist of biomarker-driven research in the field of oncology, with primary emphasis on how biomarker profiles predict response to cancer therapies. Caris-sponsored research covers an array of topics across the tumor biomarker landscape from preliminary translational science to retrospective and prospective clinical trials and artificial intelligence-generated test platforms.

Job Responsibilities

  • Content organization

    • Work with Caris scientists and external physicians to gain an understanding of project goals

    • Obtain and interpret data from Caris scientists in an efficient manner

    • Prepare figures and a cogent manuscript outline to reflect project goals

  • Manuscript preparation

    • Prepare manuscript draft

    • Collaborate with Caris scientists and any external physician authors on draft review

    • Submit manuscripts to appropriate journals

  • Publication status monitoring

    • Track status of all manuscripts in review and prepare summary document for relevant parties

    • Address reviewer comments when required and coordinate responses from relevant parties

  • Continuing Education and Journal article review

    • Keep up on the latest precision medicine-based literature

    • Select an article every other week to present to Caris research/evidence/MSL team

    • Maintain knowledge of all Caris testing and technical platforms

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in a biological science related to cancer biology.

  • 2+ years' experience as a Medical Writer. This requirement may be waived if applicant has a significant quantity of research writing available for review.

  • Background in cancer biology, molecular/cellular biology, genetics or similar field

  • An exceptional grasp of English and the standard research writing style.

  • Familiarity with precision medicine and the analytical platforms utilized to generate proteomic and genomic data

  • An ability to synthesize complex information into key messages.

  • Ability to learn quickly, work independently, and thrive in a deadline-driven environment.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, and general working knowledge of Internet for business use.

  • Experience in EndNote.

  • Basic knowledge of statistical tests.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in GraphPad Prism, EndNote Reference Manager Software, and BioReader Software.

Physical Demands

  • Must possess ability to sit, stand, and/or work at a computer for long periods of time

  • Must possess ability to perform repetitive motion

  • This position requires periodic travel and some evenings, weekends and/or holidays.

  • Job may require after-hours response to emergency issues.

  • At times may be required to work weekends/holidays.
