JOB PURPOSE
The Science Lab Manager oversees the operational, technical, and safety systems of the Secondary School Science laboratories. This role ensures that laboratory spaces, equipment, materials, and procedures effectively support inquiry-based learning aligned with the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP).

The Science Lab Manager coordinates laboratory operations across Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and interdisciplinary science learning spaces while supporting student research, departmental logistics, safety compliance, inventory systems, and laboratory readiness.

This role collaborates closely with Science teachers, Subject Leaders, IB Coordinators, operational teams, and school leadership to maintain safe, organized, and responsive laboratory environments that support high quality teaching and learning.

This is a part-time position within the Secondary School Science Department.

RESPONSIBILITIESย 

As the Science Lab Assistant, you will contribute to a safe, organized, and inquiry-driven learning environment that supports practical science learning across Grades 6 to 12 with a focus in the MYP program. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset are essential.

ย 1. Provide Classroom Logistics & Operational Support
  • Serve as a primary responder for immediate classroom resource needs and laboratory support requests.
  • Support teachers in maintaining organized, functional, and well-stocked laboratory and classroom spaces.
  • Regularly audit and restock classroom and laboratory supplies, including safety equipment and commonly used materials.
  • Monitor laboratory readiness and communicate resource or maintenance needs to the Science Lab Manager.
ย 2. Support Laboratory Preparation & Breakdown
  • Prepare equipment, materials, and chemical reagents for laboratory activities as directed by the Science Lab Manager and science faculty.
  • Support laboratory setup, breakdown, and cleanup processes.
  • Ensure equipment is cleaned, maintained, and returned to appropriate storage locations following use.
  • Assist with the movement and distribution of laboratory materials between preparation spaces and classrooms.
ย 3. Maintain Equipment & Resources
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on laboratory equipment.
  • Clean, sterilize, and maintain laboratory equipment and glassware according to established procedures.
  • Assist the Science Lab Manager with specialized laboratory preparations and technical tasks.
  • Support inventory tracking and organization of laboratory materials and equipment.
ย 4. Support Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Assist in maintaining laboratory safety standards and procedures.
  • Ensure Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and other required safety documentation are available and accessible.
  • Support safe storage, handling, and disposal procedures for laboratory materials.
  • Respond to laboratory incidents and concerns in accordance with established school safety protocols.
  • Assist with annual inventory audits of chemicals and laboratory equipment.
ย 5. Support Teaching & Learning
  • Assist teachers during laboratory activities when requested.
  • Support student safety and proper equipment use during practical learning experiences.
  • Assist with science fairs, research projects, exhibitions, and other departmental initiatives as assigned.
  • Contribute to the smooth operation of inquiry-based science learning experiences.

Educational Background & Professional Experience
