Job description

About Broome Street Academy Charter High School:
Broome Street Academy Charter High School (BSA) is a tuition-free public charter high school located in SoHo, educating students from all five boroughs, and devoted to providing students the necessary skills and support to graduate prepared for a successful future beyond high school. Our equitable, holistic, and student-centered approach provides students with access to a rigorous, standards-based curriculum that will equip graduates with the skills they need to make a positive impact on their communities and the broader world. Uniquely, BSA is the only charter school in the NYCDOE Community Schools portfolio because of our long-standing partnership with The Door, a revered non-profit organization with more than 50 years of service to New York City's young people. Our partnership allows us to serve the whole student and meet a variety of non-academic needs that clear the path for student learning.
We are an inclusive school community that values academic rigor, trauma informed practice, and student voice. Our Advanced Placement classes, Athletics program, and extracurricular offerings give our students the full high school experience in a small, one-of-a-kind environment. Our admissions policy gives preference to students who are homeless, in foster care, or from low performing schools, though all students, regardless of their background, circumstance, race, gender or ethnicity are welcome, and encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
  • Guide BSA on identifying the data points needed for collection to evaluate the school based on its accountability plan.
  • Discreetly and professionally manage, organize and present password protected, sensitive and confidential staff and student data for state reporting while following all mandated guidelines related to data protection (FERPA, HIPAA etc.)
  • Serve as an advisory expert in student information systems including PowerSchool, SchoolTool, Magnus, School Mint, and ATS.
  • Gather, analyze and evaluate school data using existing student information systems and assist the instructional team with creating a data-driven instructional environment.
  • Evaluate data and prepare annual reports for the State University of New York, The New York State Education Department and the New York City Department of Education.
  • Create a performance dashboard which is updated monthly by the school leadership team and for the meetings of the Board of Trustees.
  • Oversee data entry and assist with data audits.
  • Participate in management, departmental and committee meetings as requested.
  • Assist with identifying data issues that cross departments and necessitate common resolution.
  • Integrate data and systematize across multiple platforms.
  • Take the lead on faculty, student and family surveys using Panorama and Google Forms.
  • Create, document and follow best practices for data tracking, analysis and reporting.
  • Support NYCDOE Per Pupil invoicing process and annual reconciliation.
  • Support enrollment and academic programming tasks
  • Lead strategic plans related to data management, student records, and data security.
  • Complete other relevant assignments as required by Senior Director of Operations or Head of School

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required. Preference given to professionals with backgrounds in Social Sciences, Education or a related field with emphasis on program evaluation and data analysis.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with data analysis and relational databases.
  • Must strongly believe that data is a vital tool used for decision making and that accurate data is essential for a school's success and long term growth/development strategy.
  • Experience with SchoolTool or other student information management systems required.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 Suite including advanced Excel skills (such as Vlookup, pivot tables, graphing, Macros, etc.), Google Suite and the ability to learn new software required.
  • Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a friendly and collegial operations team.
  • A deep knowledge of charter school accountability and a track record of progressive responsibility in a charter school setting are highly preferred.

Work Schedule: This is a full-time 40 hr/wk, 12-month position with school recesses/breaks off, a competitive salary and complete benefits package.
