About the role

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Reads job work instructions to determine machine, packaging and material requirements.
  • Sets up the equipment, following all operational and safety procedures.
  • Turns valves or moves controls to activate and maintain system at specified temperatures and machine rates.
  • Observes machine operation and monitors mixing, pelletizing, drying, coating, transporting and packaging processes and makes recommended specified operating adjustments.
  • Adds specified amounts of materials into kettles, mixers and blenders.
  • Able to lift and empty 55 lb bags of chemicals repeatedly throughout an eight hour shift. 
  • Labels and prints on packaging supplies.
  • Draws samples of products for laboratory analysis and performs in-line quality testing of product. 
  • Accurately completes batch sheets, lot sheets and shift process sheets in a timely and legible manner.
  • Keeps work areas neat and orderly.
  • Operates forklift.
  • Performs minor machine maintenance including changing and cleaning various parts.
  • Accurately fills plastic bags using a vibratory bag filler with chemicals following written manufacturing procedures.
  • Adjusts feeders to dispense correct amount of chemicals following manufacturing procedures.
  • Lifts and stacks bags that weigh up to 55 lbs on to pallets.
  • Sets up scales with go/no-go lights per work instructions.

Qualifications:

To successfully perform this job, an individual must be able to perform each key responsibility in a satisfactory manner through individual effort or effective and appropriate collaboration.  Additionally, the well-qualified candidate will have the following education and experience.

Education and/or Experience:

High School Diploma, 2-3 years experience as an operator in a manufacturing environment or demonstrated practical knowledge.  

Physical/Cognitive Essential Functions:

Must be able to lift up to 55 lb. bags routinely through the course of an 8-hour shift. 

Work Environment:

Works and travels throughout plant environment of varied temperatures and humidity, and wears personal protective equipment, as required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 

Various operations in the plant generate noise, dust, vapor and fumes in the normal course of production.  The Company has been and is committed to eliminate these conditions to the extent possible through the application of design engineering.  The Company also provides a variety of safety equipment to keep all associates safe and within OSHA standards.  The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
