How much do scale attendant jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 15, 2026, the average hourly pay for scale attendant in the United States is $18.39, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $16.11 and $19.71 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Scale Attendant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Scale Attendant, you need basic math skills, attention to detail, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with weighbridge software, data entry systems, and sometimes forklift operation certifications are typically required. Strong customer service, communication abilities, and reliability help you excel in this role. These skills ensure accurate weight recording, regulatory compliance, and efficient, courteous service to clients and drivers.

How can I make 2000 a week working from home?

A Scale Attendant typically earns hourly wages and may work part-time or full-time shifts; earning $2000 weekly from home would require high hourly rates, overtime, or multiple shifts, which are uncommon for this role. To increase income, gaining specialized skills, certifications, or working additional hours can help, but reaching that level solely as a Scale Attendant is unlikely without additional income sources or roles.

What are scale attendants?

Scale attendants are professionals who operate and monitor weigh scales at facilities such as landfills, recycling centers, or industrial sites. Their main responsibilities include weighing incoming and outgoing vehicles, recording weight data, verifying load contents, and ensuring that all procedures comply with safety and regulatory standards. Scale attendants often interact with drivers, collect necessary documentation, and may also handle payments or issue receipts. They play a key role in maintaining accurate records for inventory, billing, and regulatory compliance.

What are some common challenges faced by Scale Attendants, and how can they be managed effectively?

Scale Attendants often encounter challenges such as handling high volumes of traffic during peak hours, ensuring accurate weight recordings, and dealing with customers who may be unfamiliar with procedures. Effective time management and strong attention to detail are crucial in minimizing errors and keeping operations running smoothly. Clear communication with truck drivers and teamwork with yard or dispatch personnel can also help resolve issues quickly and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

What does a scale attendant do?

A scale attendant operates weighing equipment to measure the weight of vehicles, cargo, or goods, ensuring accurate readings for shipping, receiving, or compliance purposes. They may also record data, inspect scales for proper functioning, and maintain the equipment in a clean and safe condition.

What is the difference between Scale Attendant vs Scale Operator?

AspectScale AttendantScale Operator
CredentialsHigh school diploma or equivalent, training on scale operationHigh school diploma, certification or training in scale operation often preferred
Work EnvironmentIndustrial or warehouse settings, assisting with weighingIndustrial facilities, operating and maintaining weighing equipment
Job DutiesAssisting with weighing, recording data, basic equipment maintenanceOperating scales, ensuring accurate measurements, troubleshooting

While both roles involve weighing and measurement tasks, a Scale Attendant typically assists with basic operations and data recording, whereas a Scale Operator actively manages and maintains the weighing equipment. The roles often overlap, but the Scale Operator usually requires more technical skills and certifications.

Is it hard to get hired by waste management?

Getting hired as a Scale Attendant at waste management companies can vary depending on location and experience, but the process generally involves completing an application, passing a background check, and sometimes a drug test. Having a valid driver's license and physical stamina can improve chances, and some positions may require basic safety training or certifications.

What jobs pay 4000 a week without a degree?

A Scale Attendant typically earns less than $4,000 per week, as this role usually offers hourly wages that total significantly less. High-paying jobs that can reach or exceed $4,000 weekly without a degree often include roles such as commercial truck drivers, sales managers, or skilled trades like electricians, which may require certifications or specialized training but not necessarily a college degree.
