Job description

THE OPPORTUNITY

Vir Bio is looking for a Biospecimen Data Specialist (Temporary) who will be responsible for coordinating and managing biospecimen data related to sample tracking, shipment, and reporting. This role ensures accurate logging of transactions tied to sample management, leveraging platforms such as Smartsheet and Excel to facilitate data integrity and transparency throughout the biospecimen lifecycle.

This role is located in our San Francisco headquarters with an expectation of at least 3 days per week in office.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Log and track all biospecimen transactions, including shipments from central labs to third-party labs, returns to sites, and sample destruction
  • Maintain and update central and third-party lab databases to ensure real-time accuracy of sample records
  • Develop, implement, and maintain common sample reporting plans using manual and automated tools (e.g., Excel, Smartsheet, or custom programming solutions)
  • Collaborate with laboratory teams and external partners to streamline sample management processes and resolve discrepancies
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational data standards for biospecimen handling and documentation
WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU BRING
  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences, data management, or a related field
  • Experience with biospecimen or laboratory data management systems (e.g., Smartsheet, Excel)
  • Experience with programming or automation for data tracking and reporting preferred
  • Proficiency in data reporting and database maintenance
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for biospecimen management
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment
