Position Overview
At Foundation Building Materials (FBM), Tax Associate is responsible for supporting the organization's tax operations by ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely execution of tax-related processes and reporting. This role supports the business through detailed analysis, cross-functional collaboration, and responsive support to internal stakeholders while maintaining a high level of customer service and operational efficiency in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities and Qualifications
Key Responsibilities
Sales Tax Administration
  • Review and approve customer sales tax exemption and resale certificates
  • Process tax adjustments for valid non-taxable sales within the ERP system (Infor CSD)
  • Prepare and maintain sales tax resale certificates for suppliers, as needed
  • Research and interpret exemption certificate requirements in accordance with state and local tax regulations

Data Management & Reporting
  • Maintain and update sales tax exemption and resale certificate data systems
  • Ensure accuracy and organization of tax-related records and supporting documentation
  • Support reporting and audit readiness activities related to sales tax compliance

Systems & Process Support
  • Utilize internal systems including Infor CSD, Blackline, and Power BI
  • Support accounting workflows and assist with process improvements related to tax operations
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate tax handling and system data integrity

Communication & Cross-Functional Support
  • Partner with internal stakeholders and external customers to resolve tax-related questions and documentation requests
  • Communicate effectively across all levels of the organization regarding sales tax matters and compliance requirements
  • Provide high levels of customer service through responsiveness, accuracy, and professionalism

Additional Responsibilities & Miscellaneous
  • Participate in special projects and additional duties as assigned to support departmental and corporate objectives

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support Tax and corporate objectives

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field preferred, or equivalent experience
  • 2-5 years of corporate accounting or sales tax experience in a multi-unit, multi-state organization preferred
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, VLOOKUPs, and pivot tables
  • Experience in construction or building materials distribution industry preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact across all levels of the organization
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Ability to quickly learn ERP systems, accounting workflows, and reporting/analytics tools (Infor CSD, Blackline, Power BI)
  • Commitment to teamwork, integrity, customer service, and operational excellence

Compensation
The listed pay range reflects the expected base rate for this position. Within the range, individual pay may vary based on experience, qualifications, and work location within state. This is a full-time position with competitive pay and benefits.
  • Base: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
  • Bonus: 10% Target Bonus
  • Total Compensation (Base + Bonus): The successful candidate could reasonably expect a Total Compensation Package in the range of $56,000 - $72,000
  • Equity: This role is not eligible for equity opportunities, awards or grants
