FMI | engineered textile products for aerospace and defense

FMI's Rhode Island facility is focused on textile engineering and manufacturing of 2D woven fabrics, 3D woven preforms, braided materials and resin transfer molded composites. We work with the stiffest, strongest, and lightest fiber in the world including carbon, glass, aramid (kevlar) and ceramic.

Our products are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as NASA's Mars Sample Return mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for US military ground vehicles.


Your role: FMI's Rhode Island facility is seeking a Business Development Manager. The Business Development Manager will be responsible for developing new business with existing customers, and identifying and cultivating new customers. Key measures of success for the Business Development Manager will be growth of sales revenue, and New Business Development Pipeline (NBDP) value. In addition to developing new business, the Business Development Manager will provide valuable customer and market information to help support FMI's business strategy and marketing efforts. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide input to and execute the strategy to grow sales
  • Identify and target new customers through research
  • Develop relationships and credibility with stakeholders at current and targeted new customers to identify, initiate and manage to success new opportunities  
  • Provide product presentations to build awareness and drive FMI sales
  • Respond to technical needs of customers, RFQs/RFPs from customers and customer specifications
  • Convey our value proposition which will ultimately result in customer specification of products and sales
  • Provide insight into value in use to assist in pricing
  • Work with internal teams and match our capabilities with customer needs to develop a win/win offering
  • Develop sales forecasts and sales reports
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies
  • Contribute to Marketing Communication efforts including print collateral, website, news releases and technical articles
  • Participate at trade shows and conferences to promote FMI products
  • Provide Voice of Customer (VOC) to FMI business teams to enable high value solutions to our customers
  • Provide VOC to help develop Technology Roadmaps and assist in developing the definition and business case for new products 

What we need from you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business or engineering discipline
  • 5+ years sales, development, application engineering, or account management experience
  • Experience in managing a sales process to achieve product specifications in technical applications
  • Must possess a proven track record of successfully building a pipeline of new opportunities with existing or new customers
  • Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with a team and independently when required
  • Self-directed and independent, able to manage time and tasks as required
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at a time

Preferred:

  • Composites or materials experience
  • Aerospace and/or Defense market experience
  • Consultative selling approach, with an understanding of value selling
  • Ability to work in a “virtual” team, while driving sales success
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with a team and independently when required
  • Lean / Six Sigma / Continuous Improvement
